Not a need but a want. Kinda like any of us needing 20 saws but alot of us having them?
Some of us make hay while some of us make stripesI have about ten grand in all the equipment I make hay with. Thinking about having that much in a lawn mower just seems......well, insane. lol
I hear ya!!I have about ten grand in all the equipment I make hay with. Thinking about having that much in a lawn mower just seems......well, insane. lol
do it long enough and that will triple easily. I started out with a $300 haybine, $50 hay rake, and a $100 square baler and pulled it all with a hand me down 1950's massey. Now i have a 20k in a tractor and a $4000 hay rake along with the newer round baler, a newer haybine, but still using a dirt cheap square baler. Really bad part is that i dont raise beef to sell, just to eat and i really like beef so that means we butcher 2 per yearI have about ten grand in all the equipment I make hay with. nice looking crazy cows, dont know how you do it.How many head have you got Nate?

just sold 4 calves a couple months ago but i think there are 13-14 head now......I dont keep track other than if the pasture is getting eaten down i sell some and if I start running low on slaughter sized i start getting antsy about having more calves. My lowline angus bull is pumping out calves but they are all bulls....last 2 years i have had 7-8 calves and all but one were bulls.
12-15 is the max my pasture can handle right now, internal fences are crappy so i can't do intensive grazing and the other 45 acres isnt fenced because I am too poor and lacking the time to build fence. We are going to try and get the other 45 acres fenced in the next few years which will open up more opportunity because that ground butts up against some ground i lease for hay and there is almost 100 acres fenced there with no animals running on it.
my blind calf is doing good and actually seems to be getting some sight back. my daughter chases him around the yard and he doesnt run into anything and he can negotiate the back porch to get his bottle so maybe i can get him out to pasture with the rest of them once he is off the bottle
My brother in law had a blind calf born on his place last fall. It runs with some other heifers about the same age, and gets around really well. You wouldn't know it was blind unless you got a close look at it's eyes.
I'm running more cows on this place than I should be really. About 30 acres in two separate fields. I'm maxed out right now......
Luckily I lease 54 acres from my neighbor that joins one of my fields that I cut hay off of. We've almost got it ready for cows (the fences had to be rebuilt) so I can winter my herd on it.

I remember when my cousin had a blind. heifer. It did like moving much and he showed it for 4H. It was really tasty too.
I named him Sirloin for a reason....he should make some tasty and tender steaks being barn keptI remember when my cousin had a blind. heifer. It did like moving much and he showed it for 4H. It was really tasty too.
