Yes, I move it. I can easily adjust for a more durable grind vs. fast.

Yes they were.
Definitely not how it came but I personally did not do it. It’s a piece of delrin.

So that one has a lot more movement that a “stock” 450 grinder would??

OE 450 just has 2 holes to thread that chain holder knob into, as far as I know. You can’t raise or lower the holder. The eccentric allows a lot of variations. Since it was like this when I got it, I can’t compare to stock. I do know I can position the top plate exactly where I want it.

I believe Shaun makes an adjustable arm for it, but it’s been a while, could be wrong on that one. You can also shim your wheel down to get some adjustment

Yup, I can modify those old Simington 450's so they have a vertical and horizontal adjustment.

I modify the original arm and then make a few components for it all to work. Probably around $250 with return shipping.

Well guys I played with the 450 I got and it’s pissing me off lol….i need another wheel and it needs some kind of adjustment I just need to figure it out….seems to me the chain is to low and needs to be raised….definitely not an accurate machine, yet anyway…

On the other hand the square jig is simple to use and I can make a great chain with it!!!

So do you have to shim the motor or what…I was so pissed the other day I had to walk away….i thought it would be way easier setting up than it is, and im not new to grinders….hell I got a square jig i put on my Oregon 520 and it blows that 450 out of water as far as ease of use, performance, and finished chain, like I can’t even belive it…

I know the Simington 451 is and improvement on the 450, I only paid 300 for the Simington 450, but kinda wish I would have passed on it and either got a 451 or just passed on both and keep using the square jig!!!

Also I don’t know who commented about the dressing the wheel is very important on the 450 but I can believe that….when I dress the side plate it doesn’t creat the slight forward lean of the side plate….its just straight up and down on the grinding wheel…sounds like I need to look at adjusting the side plate wheel dresser….

Does yours have multiple thrust washers on the swing arm? Should be able to swap them around to raise or lower the arm?

Ya I tried it some the other day, need to measure with it agian…I just needed some sharp chains so I went to the square jig…

Need to play with it more!!

you might have to re-shim the motor. the face of the arbor should be half and inch from the bottom of the frame. the motor gets shimmed from the factory so that the arm/chain will be at the same height when you swing the arm from side to side. its a pain in the ass to get it square once its knocked out. you can move the arm up and down with the washers and the arbor moves up and down as well.
