Dan how's the grinding going now ?

Well I think I've got the angles decent now. It seems to me that a chain that cut good round, when converted, needs a decent amount off the rakers to self feed at all. I did the 3 chains for the tests I did in the gtg thread. All three needed rakers lowered.
But they cut great. I'm going to do some now. I really need to build a stand for this. I'm constantly dropping to my knees to check the the angles.
Also it seems that keeping the corner right where it needs to be is tough. Seems to move a little as I progress through a chain.
I'm getting better with it.
I'm going to convert my 20" chains now!

That's what I'm finding. Seems this will make it nice to convert, but then it would be better to hand file after.
Once you get used to it you wouldn't hand file anything but chains to race with. Ground is consistent and easier to do if you're a high volume user.

Lol! I was hoping the opposite was true. I'll convert everything, and was hoping to get some muscle memory maintaining them. I've got to give this grinder back to Angelo soon.
But I did just have someone offer to go half with me on one...[emoji848]

Filing behind a grinder can be done but the angles are hard to duplicate

I can see now that the corner of the stone is rounding a bit if I don't watch it, which creates a beak from both directions if the corner is in the right place. Touch ups are ok but converting is wearing it faster than I thought.
