Your muffler mod is aimed directly at the log and all the heat is closer to the log. The deflectors on the side or anywhere else are farther away and glance off the log away from the operator/wood.

Again if the tree is as wide or wider then the log even with side deflectors the heat is still bouncing of log.also google 261 muff mods.look how mant people put a 288 husky deflector on top of the muffler wich is doung same as other two.its onky a 50cc saw its not a 70 to 90 cc saw buried in 40 in log

Please explain how its any different than any of these that other members have made. Still blowing out the front, last I checked. Whats the difference if its the top, bottom, or side ? Exhaust still blows out the front of the saw

1. I took the liberty to clear up what I believe you are trying to say ........ correct me if I am wrong
2. Follow the path of the exhaust, out the exhaust port, through the muffler, out the exit, and then YOU tell me what you believe the difference is, or if there even is any difference to you
3. I will help all I can, I will try my best, but what I'm not going to do is sit back and read your posts, then make it easy for you.
4. When you decide to educate yourself, its best to ask questions, not make statements
5. When you want effective mods, follow other successful mods, leading the charge usually means that you're the first one shot, untill you have the experience to be that leader

You still havent answered the most important question.
How do you think the exhaust travels, once it leaves the cylinder, through your muffler with its mods, and then the same question for a side discharge muffler mod ?

Dont shy away now ........... you are just about there.

Why would T4driller weld in a plate in that front cover in the post above this one ?

Think about what you did to those 261 mufflers and then think about the ones with a side or top discharge. Look at it from a hot exhaust perspective and then tell us what you believe is happening

And what makes you so intelligent may i aak
Years as an automotive technician, being ase certified, designing real exhaust systems and understanding thermodynamics for one. 10 years professionally falling timber and working in the tree industry consistently and saws not being a *f-wording hobby for another.

You strike me as a man that likes to argue. I do NOT enjoy arguing. I am here to be educated, share my passion, and to engage in interesting conversation. Not to naysay, piss in people's cheerios, or to be ignorant.

It would behoove you to not be standoffish, take constructive criticism, and better yourself. Your welding looks lovely by the way, and I mean that.

Have a nice day,
Dominick

If you try both types of outlets, one like yours (straight out) and ones with pipes or conventional outlets that aren't pointing into the wood, you will notice the difference. Difference in sound and in igniting wood, particularly if it's dry wood.

Seems like it would dissipate heat better than steel? I think some versions of the 880 have a cast aluminum muffler.

True, aluminium will dissipate heat better than steel.... The cast aluminium version of the 088 muffler gave me the idea of making these.
These cast 084 mufflers are gravity cast just like an old 090 muffler and I'm yet to see one of those melt.

I'm actually wondering myself how much hotter the gases are that come straight out the front vs on a side or top deflector. I don't have a temp gun, but I'd bet if it's straight down and out the front that it's maybe 300° F hotter than if it's on the side or top and pointed forward.

That being said, I have several that exit the lower front
