A 2 cycle is a lot different than an engine with valves.

Indeed, but, even an engine with valves benefits from a well tuned exhaust. Cam profile affects that as well. Thats another rabbit hole.

Im enjoying the discussion yall.

Exactly, that is why headers have collectors, and tubes of the right length and diameter.

Conversely, Funny Cars and Rails generally do not have collectors, but they still pay a lot of attention to the length and diameter of the tubes.

Similarly on the intake side, a dual port manifold will provide more low-end and midrange power, and a single plane will provide more high-end power.

Got a few more done

395 with restrictor thing removed and a lil red barn deflector

2 357/359 mufflers. One I removed the EPA stuff, the other just did a hole in the separation.

All brazed with bronze rod and painted with VHT

Redid the muffler on my ported MS460. Of note-I went through with a round file and cleaned up my edges-I am not a savage. I just didn’t take pictures before I put everything back together.

I removed most of the baffle for a mostly straight shot from the exhaust port, then bean-shaped opening on the side, and put the factory dual port cover on. This leaves all the factory screens intact, and makes the saw a lot quieter than what Randy did to the muffler. Nothing against what Randy did, the saw runs great, but it had two things going against it: No screens-no bueno, especially when it gets hot and dry, and man, it was just uncomfortably loud, even with 33db plugs in.

For comparison, here’s what Randy did-definitely set up to let exhaust out:IMG_9918.jpeg

Are those lengths tuned for any particular rpm? You should get some pretty aggressive resonance pulses from that setup with how abrupt it is. From the endcap of the first pipe, the length of the second pipe and also just from the opening to the second pipe. That last one should be a softer pulse on a wider rpm range but I don’t know the actually math you’d use to calculate that one.

it's an Ironhorse pipe

this guy did several tests and a summary for the math

and Dyno Joe did some dyno tests with this type of short pipe, it's not the strongest muffler-mod but stretches the torque over a wide rpm range

yes it is. Actually it's the loudest muffler-mod I ever build and I can't imagine to work with this saw for more then 1 hour. I guess it's twice the loudness of a "normal" muffler-mod like this (372XP too)

or this guy with one 25mm big port

I plan to build a similar short pipe for the chinese 5200 / 5800 Komatsu Zenoah clones, but first I am working on a pop up piston for this saws with the 48mm / 62cc cylinder kit
