Made a new muffler for the 394, the old one directed the exhaust right at the log when milling och varmed up the saw, was hard to restart. I am trying this one tomorrow slabbing a 13' by 25" spruce.

I can report it was loud.
It worked out ok, much better but should be directed more straight out the side, its now hitting the mill a bit. Didnt want to cut up the top cover too much but I might do another muffler.

This is the first muffler mod I attempted. Was looking for some nice thin wall tubing and I came across it for a great price. 10 pcs of 30cm (1 foot)stainless for just a few bucks.

I don't have any brazing equipment but I have a tig welder. Still learning but overall it's quite ok. Sadly the muffler was already dented.

Should I cut the muffler on the inside from the back as well? Not sure if that's called the baffle.

Yeah I don’t think the 572 muffler is stainless.
You can still weld it even with mild steel mig,
paint it black when finished.
Would rather have stainless than bare metal or gavanised.
If you have a tig, then all the better.
