My opinion on porting, and most jobs...you aren't paying all the money for the service, but for the knowledge.

As far as testing goes, the testing is an investment in time for the porter. It rewards him in the end because he figures out what makes a model tick then makes a name for himself, resulting in a customer base...such as Scott and his 661's. Then he can make that up by knowing exactly what to do to get desired results without wasting time.

Just an idiots opinion and thoughts.

As far as 800 dollar port jobs? I think it's criminal. If I buy a brand new Makita 7900 and it cost me 850 dollars and it works well but I would like more out of it...is it fair to pay almost 100% of the saws cost for a woods port? I feel not.

I guess it's all of our opinions and doesn't matter much.

If someone thinks they got a good deal at 800 bucks for a ported chainsaw, good for them.

Precisely... no one knows what he is doing, and yet they bash him.
And I’m willing to bet Scott’s “race port” would hold up just fine in the woods.

Sawmikaze has a fresh fish on the line here, there is a guy I talk with on the regular that knows..

But I'll let you guys find out...again :)

I'm not bashing that guy at all ..if he can get it good for him...who am I to say what something is worth.

I just "personally" find 800 bucks a little steep to have A working chainsaw cut a smidge faster.

Believe it, I emailed him for the hell of it just to see, his full extra duper insanomized with extensive chamber work was $800 on a 2153! I asked him what that actually was and he stopped communicating with me. Before that I asked him why he was so expensive and he said because his saws are the fastest, I asked if he’d ever won any races or had his saws compared to anyone else’s and he said no! He seemed quite windy to me! I’d put anyone on this forum
that ports saws against and wager they’d all hold their own and probably beat his for a fraction of the cost! Sorry for the long winded post, but that guy rubs me the wrong way!

Thank you for sharing that.

Scott I’m pretty sure has been doing it for longer than I’ve been alive. His reputation is solid and he has made a name for himself. I’m just curious to see how the insano saws would run against a 300$ port job.

I hated to tell you guys "I told you so" last time...so I'm just gonna ride this one out and let it unfold all on its own, then you boys can make your own decisions. :)

Nah,
Fill us in Ryan. The guy is more than likely full of himself. Only point I was trying to make was anyone getting a saw from one of the established porters on this site is getting a great deal imho.

Yes. I would very much like to know the deal myself. No reason to hold back.

All I'll say is that you or any other dude on this forum will provide as good of a saw and probably better.

What's to unfold? If someone is dumb enough to pay the guy that much then that's on them.
