Nice strong saw there Bradley. [emoji106]
I think the Stihl chain has much harder steel in the teeth than Oregon. Stihl holds the edge better.

Thanks Jeff, I was thinking that too. You can really tell a difference in the two when filing.

Yup. I noticed the same thing.
Oregon is much easier to sharpen, but doesn't hold the edge as long. Carlton teeth are also very, very hard! I think even harder than Stihl.

Dallas sent me this chain to test, I got to try it out on this Poulan Pro 415 that got a little work done in the Chaos Garage today.
Filtration on this saw sucks

the piston and cylinder looked great, so i swapped in an unlimited coil, modified a clutch cover, tossed the brake, put on an 8 pin and a pull handle and did a little delicate exhaust surgery
it runs pretty good and one more project off the bench

yep this is his 25/15 grind I think, it is nice and aggressive and I am going to run it on this pp415 and the stock Jonsered 2171 tomorrow, It felt really good on the Poolawn but I think i was a little fat when i watched the video, so it might be even a bit better when i learn how to tune a chainsaw :BangHead:

Day out cutting some of the hardest timber on earth today.
Ironbark and the (in Australia) legendary small leaf variety, dead, standing.
This stuff is rated at 16300 Jenka which puts it at 3 times that of oak etc.
Its like concrete and I have to halve or quarter 2 foot rounds so I can lift it into the trailer.
The 14" thick 2' rounds halved were only just pickup-able. Its like lead.

Solid front cover is definitely quieter. The saw feels a bit more high strung with dual port front cover. Still works good but I'm liking the solid front cover better. Seems to have a touch more torque and it's a little better behaved.
The saw tuned very close to the same wot rpms with either cover.

Now just modify your solid front cover with a small hole. Best of both worlds

Well I went big with mine, but you can make it however you like.

The way I build saws they seem to do well with a lot of exhaust outlet. If I only go duals on the side they are usually large

How loud is it when you run that? Louder than the dual port front cover?
