I actually reread that question and confused it for production cylinders you had part of making or something like that. didn't mean to interrupt you. lolYes?
Pipe it poulan+ pipe× sound waves= stihl killer husky slayer. I think. my calculator brokeHere's Don's poulan pro 505 making the first cuts after port work. Running the same bar and chain with 9 pin as the video before. rakers set at .070 depth
After all other mods but before any port work:
After port work:
I'd say this thing has a good bit left in it if it were to be a race saw.

There are a handful of models with no base differences. Those are probably the only ones we'll ever see pre modded cylinders for.I recently saw that on HLS and think they use his #'s and port design but casing has its variances so the porting would have to be milder but I could be wrong. When I rebuild a saw I would like to use a good used ported cylinder or a good production cylinder that has better #'s and squish than stock.
Usually very little. If I do just a cylinder I run a little looser squish than if I have the whole saw just in case it's a tiny bit tighter on their saw.Is there ever deviations between same saws with cranks? I guess what I am asking is there differences in crank stroke with same saws?
Cool. Thanks Mike.Usually very little. If I do just a cylinder I run a little looser squish than if I have the whole saw just in case it's a tiny bit tighter on their saw.
Jim, is this the carb you are referring to?It's an oversized carb from the 372 x-torq. It's basically what you end up with if you completely hog out a wj39 to the limit.
It has the offset mount holes like the wj and will be easy to fit up.
I don't do just cylinders.Re: pre ported cylinders ... I think what scares some of the builders are differences with the various pistons, both in skirt width and the resulting squish.
I don't do just cylinders.
There's to many things other than the cylinder to make one run like it can
I want to mod the muffler and advance the ignition and run it and tune it at least once just so I know how it runs.
If something goes wrong there will be to many questions about what's what. And you left out "assembled correctly"!!! Plus, you running it and testing it out is an invaluable quality control.
It was just a thought. That's what I would worry about to. Was it installed right, any air leaks, and tune. But the porting and piston would be a matched set and not a crazy port job just a moderate and reliable one. With even a muffler mod combo maybe. I think if tried it could really take off.
It's the right type but I wouldn't use a carb designed for a cut off saw.Jim, is this the carb you are referring to?

I've done probably 8-10 this year like that. They all went to people active on the forums that do their own repairs and most get a base gasket instead of sealant. It was just a thought.
