Your daughter was all smiles in that selfie at the end LOL.

Saws sound awesome. Im sure video do them no justice! Someday I'd like to add a 90 cc class saw to the herd.

How about a 99cc saw? I'm thinking about getting rid of my hooskie 298. Especially if I land this 395 I have been working a deal on.

It was a bit fat. This one is my personal best. That was at 13,900. They run better fat in the real world and it's safer. That goes for all worksaws in my opinion.

I'm still wondering how they can suck all that air through that little air injection do hickey. I wonder if frogskins will help on the AF cover.

The 262 won't rev like an 036 will. I'm still wondering why. Port geometry is superior to the 036.

Hey, at least they are orange.
Al I think the air injection turbo tube would end up not able to put positive pressure into the air filter box on the 262 if you add frogskin. I.e. If you add frogskin rev the saw and put your hand by the skins and see if you feel air being blown out through skins or if the carb is taking it all. I think closed off the fins on flywheel via tube will supply more than enough so carb can take all it want or if positive pressure happens it acks like super charger that just pushes air in. Hope I'm making sense.

Did you try those K&N filters yet?

Sent from my non internal combustion device.

No but one is in the mail
It will go on the 044.

Don't know what kind of wood was in that 1st vid, but the bark looks a lot like our Shag Hickory!

Nice job on the saws. How does the weight of the 038 compare to the 044?

We arnt as fancy on tree names in Australia. It's bark is all stringy so it's called stringy bark.
I was excited to do a bit of a side by side as the timber down here makes all our hard work look ordinary.

I just wish I had of run the test in a bigger bit of wood.

The difference was more noticeable between the 038's with the bar burried.
Stock dropped rpm and would bog if lent on too much, ported just powered through.

The 038's are plastic tank models so weight difference is not noticeable while your working them.
They do earn that bit of extra weight with being built better though. I recon the 038 would outlast the 044 every time

The extra width of that 038 clutch is impressive, but do not underestimate the effectiveness of the 044's additional diameter. That will make a bigger difference than you think.

Note: the 046/460 uses the same clutch as the 044/440. My 044#1, bought new in 1992, still has the original clutch, and it was my only saw for 18 years.

I used a 034 clutch and drum on my 064 hybrid forever and never had any problems.
The only stihl I know that has clutch trouble is a 660,it's very rare that I port one that doesn't need a clutch.

The Stihl 038AV, super and magnums all have the same stroke. The cylinder bolt patterns on the 038AV and super are the same. The 038 magnum has a more square cylinder bolt pattern. The only real differences between the 038 models is the bore.
038 AV=48mm
038 S=50mm
038 mag and mag II =52mm
The 038 mags I believe came with slightly different mufflers. Some mags has a triple port muffler.
IIRC the magnums may also of came with a different carb. I think it was a tillotson.

Great stuff CFB, do you know the respective displacements? I know my cousin cut with an 038 for decades, and they go through about 15 cord/year.
