Here is a Stihl 026 comparison. Stock 026 running an 18" bar. Carlton Full Chisel .325 chain, versus a MOFO 026 running a 16" bar with Carlton Full Chisel .325 chain. I was too lazy to change bars over, as I just fell this Red Oak tree in a friends backyard, and I was time challenged.
@drf256
Chains both sharp?

The ported saw doesn't seem to be much quicker than the stocker.

Something wrong there.

I think it's more torque at rpm that matters.

So if you've got a high rakers chain that's not too grabby on a short bar, the extra torque of the ported saw won't be as apparent.

Put more load on the saws and the ported saw should shine.

Not trying to make excuses here, but after 10 hours of labor, the ported saw better run better. Jeffs saw above pulled 3/8 RS 25" in oak without an issue. The fact that's it's dead even with the stocker boggles my mind a bit.

I think my cutting style may be an issue. For years I cut with a stock 029. I always just let the chain do the work. I never really leaned on the saw too much, as it would bog down and slow causing me to lift a little to keep revs high.
I haven't really changed too much over the years. As evidenced in the video, I basically cut the same way with the stock and ported 026's. I never really gave the ported HP and torque a chance to show. I will try a few more cuts today and lean on the saw more. Its tough to teach an old dawg new things. Lol

If a saw isn't tuned right with a good chain then it makes no difference how strong it is.
Jason, did the 026 MOFO sound like it needed a retune?
Any insight is appreciated here.

A few posts back I posted a video of your MS440 in the cut. Did you catch it? Just curious on what you thought of the tune. Give me feedback please.
I tend to err on the side of rich.

I didn't watch the video I'm just speaking from experience.
The tune reference was a general one and not directed at you.

I didn't catch the 440 video either but I will catch up in a little bit

Just for the record here. I sharpened both chains the same exact way using same file just prior to cutting. Both chains are equal in use, ie teeth length. One had an 18" bar, stocker, one had a 16" bar, ported.
Gotta be my cutting style, not the saws.
I will take the time to change bars and chains and use same one today. Homeowner will think I am certifiably crazy, but for the sake of science and fellow members, I will sacrifice myself. Lol
