Stihl wasn't messing around when they put the 261 together.

No they weren't. The 261 is my current favorite saw out of the saws I own.

How is the 261 different from the 260 other than the obvious slightly larger piston and Mtronic carb?

It is a completely different saw from the 260. It is a strato saw, spring AV, and has better filtration. It is a high RPM saw but has great torque for its size.

Jeff you should stop by. I have one you can try. I agree with the above. Stock saws the 261 is much better.

I got it started and gave it a rough tune to warm it up then went and propped the phone up between a plastic bar cover and a bag of modelling clay one of my kids left on the bench

I figure if it's going to hang a ring or come apart, I'd rather it did it in my hands

Ive only had 1 come apart piss revving but it was my fault with a ringend exposed to the intake! Thats a feeling and sound one wont forget!!!
