Does that trend continue when ported? 585 seems pretty hot even stock.
Depends on how they’re ported. Generally speaking, at least with the 592, it’s about 10% faster than my normal ported 390’s. But I do believe that the 390 has more potential to run up in the 12,000 RPM range and be faster because of a higher rpm limited or unlimited coil. The first 592 I did would run about 12k in the wood with a short bar and was always banging the limiter every time you adjusted the dogs. I’ve changed the recipe in order to keep it from running that high because with an open can muffler, the sound gets pretty offensive.

Soft version
If you don't mind my pestering you, what sort of bar lengths do you run on it? And do you prefer the soft ones or the hard ones? I'm running hard ones on my xpw and with both 28" and 32" bars I prefer the handling of the hard ones over the soft, but I'm curious to hear the opinion of a guy who actually runs them for a living.

I don't run anything shorter than a 32 when I'm falling just what I prefer.
I run the soft version a little smoother I feel like. The harder stiffen the av up but if I break a mount it's not a big deal to change it I alway have a set of mounts in my pack

@sledneck22 you sound like my wife. pencil, pen, sharpie, ear plugs, sometimes a paint marker, and on this day a tuning screwdrivier. Also carry a vernier and tape...run a machine and welding shop, so...

It's tamarix aphylla. Softwood I'd say. Burnt but still green. Typically blond, I dunno why that one is red. Gonna drag it out and mill it.
Can't lean on it too much, my 7900 would have blown thru it, but it does pull it ok. Fine for felling, limbing, etc., I wouldn't buck firewood with it all day buried.

@Duane(Pa) I was in a hurry and not paying much attention when I was cutting, but it was slinging oil when I mounted and tested the bar at home before. got the saw from @blackbruin and he ran 28" on it.

Looking for stiffer mounts. Also gonna lighten the bar.

Yeah I get it. My tool belt has that minus a pen and plus a couple carpenter pencils. Never fails you need to mark something and one of said doesn’t show up.

346xp new edition. This is my own saw, finally got round to porting one I’m keeping. Modded the air filter and top cover. Bit extra torque out it. I’ll get some pics.

Modified air filter and top cover. Gets a bit extra. I tried this before on a 372 with a stack filter with good results.
