I wonder how well the 250 engine fit together? Every FT 250 engine I've seen doesn't have deep enough bearing and seal pockets, so there's something like a 1mm gap to have to seal. I just don't like how all that pressure will be on the bearings and seals, o I figure grind out the pockets to fit better.

Do you guys run any kind of alky? Or all pump/ race gas down there?
Most run pump fuels with most pump fuel being ethanol free.
Some run canned race fuels.
Can get E85 at some fuel stations.
Some run Meth/nitro

im just about to delve into E85 and Meth/nitro.
From research E85 needs 40% more volume
Methanol needs about 140% more volume.
So if pump fuel needed is 1
E85 needs 1.4
Methanol needs 2.4

like I said, break out the drills

Or give it a little bit of a turn. It was only 1.5 turns out on the high side.

I think they need more than that mate.
I’m far from an expert but they generally need a bigger fuel barb, bigger line, all the fuel passages drilled at both ends of the carb, more flow for idle snd transition jets etc etc
You need to dump between double to triple the fuel into the saw per cycle, plus more on top of that with the porting and pipe/rpm
You also need to keep it up to the carb.
That 281 sounded like it was sucking the carb dry to me

Here is an 066 I recently built that is now in the USA
No crazy stuff, just a strong work saw built to run a long bar to Aussie spec.
Video below was during testing/breakin, running 28” full comp 3/8 and 8 tooth sprocket in dry grey gum which is rock hard.

Who ended up with it??

:couch:

Can say that the saw runs really good. Lots of torque and a usable power and which is exactly what I wanted. Happy customer. Will get a vid of it in some wood shortly.

Did this 394XP for my friend. Initial build was typical BGD, MM, TA, but only made 175psi. He said he was happy but I wasn’t. Got the saw back from him for round 2. Step 1... Sent the cylinder down to @rattler for a base and band cut to wake it up. After I got it back I raised the exhaust and transfers back up to pre-cut height. NOW I think my friend will be truly happy with this saw, it definitely has an attitude, and I can tell that it will pull a long bar VERY well. Can’t thank you enough for getting the cylinder on your lathe Mike!

Seems pretty sporty. They do like high compression!
