I haven't seen a build thread in awhile so I thought I'd make one on this Echo 600 that I'm attempting to put a MS440 cylinder on. So far I've got the cylinder where it will bolt up and opened up the piston so that it will fit on the rod, using a MS440 bearing. The pic with the red circle is where I had to cut the fins so that it would fit around the AV mount.

I got the squish set to .020, I had to cut around .075 from the squish band to get it there. If I had a do over I think I would make a spacer to go under the base. I'm not real good at cutting the squish band but everything went good until I put it on the lathe one last time to cut .005 more and the my cutter started catching, it took a few chunks out in the process, I should have stopped but I tried a few times before changing out the cutter. I'm not sure if my cutter was dull or I had to much angle on the cutter, I changed the cutter and adjusted it, after that it cut fine and it cleaned up most of the band. Fist pic is before the cutter messed up and the second one is how it looks now.

I got the saw on my new holder, the timing wheel set up and my numbers are,
EX 100
TR 120
IN 70
Those numbers are taken by eye so they may be off a degree or two. My plan is two leave the exhaust and transfers where they are at, widen the exhaust, level the transfers and set the intake at around 78-80, I'll get on that tomorrow.

Are you making a baseplate and/or filling the case? Looks like you'll have a sealing issue by the looks of the gasket.

I'm going to fill that are with JB Weld, I'd like to do a plate but I'd have to order and then wait on a sheet of aluminum, if I do my other one that's probable what I'll do.

I'm glad you mention that, I went over to Amazon and found a .060 sheet that can be delivered tomorrow so I ordered it.

I thought yesterday was Wednesday and the ad for the aluminum sheet said it would be delivered on Thursday so I have to wait until tomorrow for it.

I finished up the cylinder, I left the transfers like they were with the intake side opening a little before the exhaust side. I still might flatten them out, I've got to think about it a bit.

I also started on the muffler, the holes where you bolt it up line up pretty good and just need a little taken off the outside edge. I dented in the flywheel side of the muffler a little to keep it off the case and at the moment where the muffle curves it it's touching but once I put a 034 spacer in there it won't be an issue. It will also need a bottom bracket made. I'll close in the top and put a hood on the side tomorrow.

Trimming the top is the worst part...

@Red97 Do you remember what kind of compression you got with your 440? I'm thinking that with taking so much out of the band that I might need to raise the exhaust or increase the squish to bleed off some of it.

A lot....
Both of those are not bad ideas.

The 50mm saws were ok the 52/54 need a decomp cold.

My saw probably has greater than 200 psi. It's grumpy, but 3 pulls and it's rockin.
I decided to leave it and see how it does, I don't want my exhaust any higher than it already is.

You can always take material out of the combustion chamber or cut the top of the piston slightly to reduce the comp. More comp is not always good. Had a few ms460 that were ported. One with 180psi was as strong as the other with 220.

I've been thinking about taking a little out of the combustion chamber and how I'd do it if it ends up with to much compression.
