I'd like to have an Ms441 ported, but the pimp daddy of those only does "new saws" . I heard that he likes sand cast aluminium Poulans though so I've started grabbing them when opportunity allows and maybe if I've got 4or5 nice ones and show up at the gtg maybe I could persuade him?

I'm not cheap, but I can be bought.

You can't do it boss. It's a dirty used saw. You just do new ones. LOL

I remember how the nasty saws make my shop smell. How dirty my hands get when I break em down for mods. But.....he has sand cast Poo Lawns.

Sand cast chainsaws. Doesn't everyone love em?
I don't know about that?
Last time I was at the scrap yard I walked out with a free Super33 , the owner forced me to take it when I picked up my 394 from him. He told me it was just gonna sit there and rot if I didn't take it . Lol I found a plug for it and sprayed the cylinder down with Deep Creep to free everything up and fired it off prime.
Im gonna start picking them up from now on since I know a couple guys really like them. I traded a bow for a sand cast to M.Mark for some rim sprockets last year.

Besides poor port layout and direction, the “Big Bores” basically enlarge to bore but keep the transfer tunnels the same size. The increased bore makes the tunnel area even smaller than the already poorly done AM tunnel.

When you try to fit the 046 jug on your saw, you’ll see what I mean. Like CFB said, the 046/460 jugs are one of the most inconsistent jugs in the Stihl lineup. The oldest “D” jugs tend to have the widest tunnels and will usually need the most sanding on the outer tunnel and/or flywheel relief to fit on the 044 chassis. All 52mm will require some clearance, but the oldies are by far the worst.

It’s worse when the jug gets lowered from porting machine work.
I know it's an old thread, but rather than start another for the same information.... I have a 440 that's going to need some love. It's still a good saw but not as strong as it once was. I may try a piston first to see if it livens it up.
If I decide to go with a new piston and cylinder, will bolting a stock, oem 460 top end give the saw any advantage over a 440 top end? Thanks

Yes, but it’s more cost and work than simply replacing the piston and rings.
