Some how I didn't see this picture, not sure how, I think it's bigger than the tree we are discussing lol.
If it weighed that much it would be closer to 4 cords than 2.2.

Your calculator must be whacked out.

That log should be near 12k-14k wet. I moved a 17ft 42" red oak log rotten outside and standing dead dry wood. Felt like 8-9k on the trailer. Heavy mfer.
Where did you find one that equaled 12-14? I used 2 they both were 20+. 52” dia 20 foot long.

Very nice. Looks like your chains are right on. SHARP.
Talk about ocd. The long bar chain felt a teeny bit off. So I took it off to give it a fresh edge. This is what I felt. All the cutters on that side had:

Hard to see that by just looking. I felt it with my finger though.
Must have bumped the ground once. So it got a fresh edge. Have to say, I like the EXL.

I used the figures that Jason posted. 51" diameter and 20 feet long. Plugged red oak into APP.
I was saying that your picture was as big as his log, it looked huge on my computer lol.

If green red oak weighs around 5500, then that's 4 cord, not 2.2 in that log.
I like to calculate the wood I pick up by weight, on trailers I know well I can guess the weight fairly accurately.
No matter what "weigh" you "cut" it it's a lot of "chords" :band:(yes I know how to spell cords lol).
Took 3 rounds this evening. 70lbs in the bags, my truck was over loaded. Good thing I was only 5.5mi away.

I think I’m at a good place to cut the witness round.

Nice load.
My new to me ride has bags, I've never put anything in them, they have 5lbs in them now and it rides pretty stiff as it is, but if you put a nice load on she smooths out nicely.

When they are all like that on a long bar you can tell quick if you cut often.
I had to touch up a chain on the 372 today, it was a chain(also an EXL) that came with the saw when I bought it and this was the first time I ran it. I hit it with 3 different files and they wouldn't touch it and they were pretty new files, then hit it with a double bevel, it got in there. The chain was case hardened from grinding, I' should only get a few more sharpenings out of it unfortunately after taking all that time on it, but at least she is noodling well now :).

Processed another 2 rounds this evening. With just about 10lbs in the bags, if I hit a big enough whoop or bump, I’d have been on the bumpstops.

This site says one 50” cookie 12 inches in length weighs over 800lbs. And I’m cutting 16” lengths.

My maff says 818 lbs at 16” long using 45lb/cu ft. This would be with very little moisture content

I actually thought red Oak was closer to 50 or 55 per cubic foot, but the first google search I looked at said 45.

9’-4” of a 50” log is a cord

A different site said green oak was 60-70 lb/cu ft. Using 65, it comes out to 1182 lb per 16” block lol

That sounds right with what I feel in my truck. I’m somewhere in between for sure. And the cordage is close to t he calculator I used. I’m guessing the whole tree is about 4 cord.

I have the little end yet too.

It very well could be. I took one down a couple years ago to make room for a lean-to on my garage. It was about 24” DBH, and 26 or 27 down low where I cut it. No forks, not much for limbs. 1.3 cords after it was stacked

Different websites are all over the place when it comes to the weight of different species of wood. I am sure a lot of it depends on moisture content, which depends on time of year, location, amount of recent rain, climate, water source, etc. It's like the Rona, nobody really knows for sure.

I cleaned up a Red Oak and a Burr Oak on a friend's ranch 8 years ago from a wicked wind storm. both tress were about 39" at the trunk. They were silly heavy and the closest thing I've cut to Hedge for density.
