A years worth of heat in one tree! I was told they counted 199 rings at that point.

It is! All through my childhood, when we passed it, it was always told the house was haunted and you dare cent look at it. I remember closing our eyes as we went by but in reality, I wonder if I was the only one that did, or just me and my cousin that were about the same age, lol!

the “small” side is righteous too!

They said it’s red oak, my fav. Biggest bar I have is 42. That’ll get it done. Also asked for a witness slice. This tree was around for the civil war! Wish I had a friend with a band mill.

What saws did you use to buck those up?

Dolly 9010 and 7900. Couldn’t see taking anything smaller. They did the job. Bad news is went thru 4 chains, hit more junk in this tree than I have in the past 3 years.

Not yet. I have a meeting Thursday with 2 members of the meeting house where this log lays. He asked me if I had any references.. that’s a first.

It’s a 42. Squared up the end and cut two 16”ish rounds. That was a decent load for an evening.
