That is a beast of a tree, I would have passed and let you have it, I know when to stay on the porch lol. I can only imagine how many cords are in that thing, it's got to be 4-6 depending on the canopy size, have fun.
I started splitting the pile of red oak I got from my parents place yrs ago this week(two large trees), it was 26 trips with a single axle trailer that I hauled about 2k on per load. It was a lot of work dicing those trees up and getting the here, I think maybe that's why I didn't do anything with the pile for so long lol.
It's not a recent score, but I recently got back to working on it.
The pile can be seen behind the fire to the right, I'll be splitting and then noodling, then splitting more for quite some time. Hoping to have it done by the end of next month, probably sell about half of it, at least that's what I have as far as verbal commitments this far.

Yeah, and I was being conservative on the weight per load as I'm sure many were quite a bit more and not many were less.26 trips? Hoorey sheet!
I think it may be more.I’m thinking this thing is probably about 4 cords or so.
Nice, what's the weight, 12k or something like that.
For 2.2 cord , I need a new calculator .Calc says about 20k.
Yep, I'm thinking he was talking about the whole tree, but we'll find out soon.Your calculator must be whacked out.
That log should be near 12k-14k wet. I moved a 17ft 42" red oak log rotten outside and standing dead dry wood. Felt like 8-9k on the trailer. Heavy mfer.
Whole trees of older pin oak around here go 22-25k easy. Tough on climbers with many large tops. No mistakes.Yep, I'm thinking he was talking about the whole tree, but we'll find out soon.
Yes they do. I've gotten as many as 30-35 splits out of a round...decent size too. Those big rounds add up quick when they are split up
