Do you check the temp of the case with an IR thermometer or anything? If so what temp do you like the case at in order to drop a bearing in w/o needing any force? If it doesn't just drop in, what do you tap it with to get it home -- socket on the outer race only or something like that?

I just sorta wing it........

I heat it till I'm sure the bearing will drop in without any needed persuasion.

I needed some persuasion halfway in on that 6303 bearing that went in my mower deck pulley. Heated to 400 I shoulda went for 500 because it was just starting to smell but not a good stink like Jeremy mentioned. When we did the 51 at Dan's his furnace had it at 500 and the paint was still just fine no blisters or discoloring. That was pretty saw we didn't want to wreck the nice 25 year old finish...

HOORAY 272 XP!

Basically referring to 70 cc saw that are about 14 lbs from both companies. IMO, they are hard to beat.

The new 462 s/b even better, a little lighter and a few more ccs. We shall see.

I generally just use needle nose pliers to put the key in the vice, and then use a rectangular file with a smooth side (that goes along the vice) to file it down. It works for me.
