id suggest copper wire rather than oring for head gasket/fire ring.
+ iron/steel sleeve.
lotta work, tim, but yer showin yer not allergic to that.
easy for me to say from here...
Thanks, Pete. The O ring seems to be deforming and sealing. If it becomes an issue. I may try copper.
I'm making some cylinder mounting bolt/studs also. I had concerns that the cylinder head was warping due to the torque of the head bolts. The cylinder head was thin and weak in that area. I had evenly tightened them and got them good and tight. When I disassembled it, one the the bolts was little more than finger tight. With cylinder mounting bolt/studs, I can be sure the cylinder is tight and won't leak. I don't want a air leak causing a score. The head won't need as much clamping force, the O ring will be sealing the pressure.

Thanks Kris. I have a new diaphragm in there that I had obtained from Tim/Fossil. I'll check and see how it is holding up. I may have to re-install the original manual oiler linkage if I can't get to automatically oil.

I found a few more places advertising re-chroming and posting prices.
Max Power-RPM’s Inc.
7841 Morrison Street
Morrisonville WI 53571
Strip, Plate and Diamond Hone 2-stroke $225
With a company name like that, their stuff must be good!

PowerSeal USA
337 Coldstream Road
Phoenixville, PA 19460
tel: 1.866.845.1531
Strip, Plate, Hone $184

Millennium Technologies LLC
1404 Pilgrim Road, Plymouth WI 53073
phone: (920) 893-5595
Plate Single Cylinder$209.95

U.S. Chrome Corp of Wisconsin
650 Oak Park Avenue
Fond du Lac, WI 54935
Toll Free: 866-922-5066
Some prices are listed on their Service Order Form but not re-plated.

FYI, I don't know that any of these companies will re-chrome a blind cylinder bore(one piece cylinder/head). From what Adam has told me, very few will and it cost quite a bit more to re-chrome a blind cylinder bore.

You can also look into Caswell plating for more DIY solutions.

Likely that oring was butyl. Its the most common black oring material. Viton is usually green and fluorosilicone is usually blue. At least as far as i know for common tranny seals. I could also be full of it. Lol.

Viton rings I've used have been black. Only need them over butyl in high heat applications.

Some vintage Husky motorsickles don't even use a head gasket- just two lapped surfaces with a tight tolerance, like a stepped lip. I have used the sealant commonly used when we delete base gaskets from these saw motors to seal heads with no gaskets on air cooled bike motors with good success. The key was the stepped lip with a very close tolerance.

I finally found some ambition to work on the saw again. I got the covers fitted with a 1/2" thick plexiglass spacer. I have some better suited plastic coming. When that arrives, I'll carve up some better covers and better fit them. I also started making a new cylinder head. I'm going to run with the head a bit and Adam will do more tuning. Once the tuning/porting is done, I will have the cylinder re-chromed. It looks kinda stock.

Adam ran it in some wood tonight. The ingition coil is bad. Notice it cutting out in the first cut.
