An occasional user. So pretty, don't want to beat it up. IIRC, the only non-stock thing is the base gasket delete; even has the brass worm gear.
There a real strong saw...got a owned from new 1992 with the same cylinder and carb as yours . A saw that iv no plans to move on !

Had this one apart today. Seals, couple of a/v mounts, caber ring and a muffler mod.

I was surprised to see two piece ignition. Is that odd for an XP?

Finished pics in a bit. Waiting for paint to dry on the muffler

Any special tools used or needed to do those seals ? Not done them before .As far as i know the 266 se and 266xp were both 2 piece ignition ..just like the 242' s of that age .

266 is probleby the fastest Husly to change seals on.
Flywheel seal have same patent as 262 (not same # number) while PTO seal is mounted in the oil pump.
Both sealed with o-ring

Best to leave the oil pump alone and not desturb unless the seal is a problem would you say Tor ?

they are so easy to exchange seals on that I wouldnt build a 266 without doing seals. You just need to remember to buy two o rings also.
Seals and o-rings are the same on both flywheel and PTO side.

Say it in another way Simon, you gone love the seal system on 266!!!!

Like Tor said, easiest saw ever to put seals in. Take the three screws out of the carrier and pop it off. Drive the old one out and put the new one in. An 11/16 craftsman socket is almost exactly the right size for a driver. Same thing other side except it's in the oil pump. Very simple.

A 266 is a factory hot rod in my opinion [emoji106]

I never checked the tickness of 266 vs 262 oil pump, and it's long time since put the seals in my 266, can't remember how much space it took in total.
If it wasnt because I want all my Huskies to be slim I would take the seal system to 266 before any other seal system Husky has used.
It's like Chris say, so simple but still solid.

Thank you Gentlemen for your joint advice :). The 266 se iv recently acquired will get a good run in the wood pile and see how it works out (ok in test so far) before i decide what to do with it ..keep/stay.
DSS With its bigger Tillitson 224 than that XP should as you say be " Powerful"

I would do seals and o-rings due age.
Chris know more about if there was other difference then just the 163 vs 224.
