This 266 se looks a bit scruffy with the red paint (soon to be rectified) but looking a little deeper ...proper original piston/cylinder with hardly a mark on it ! real good compression and it "Pings " lovely.

Decided to do a touch up on the back handle paintwork after getting shot of that red paint...opportunity to see if the spray paint i found on Ebay was any where near a expectable
match. Ok by me ...??

will you build it up to be a pure 257, or will you go for 262 C&p?
Also interested to know how the vibes feels if you go for an 262 light vs 262

257 is an interesting model to Husky, since it doesnt have the same power as 262 it can be a better platform to build up one 262 on.

257 is kinda a clone between 254 and 262, has a bit from each one.
I always hope for a nice 257, think crank has less beathing compared to 262..

I don't really know yet Tor. The cyl has a little transfer in it.
If I can save it, I will build it as a 257.
it's an interesting choice you have to do, I know my hands prefer the antivib system to 262 compared to 254, but one pure 257 may be more my liking.

DSS..Se and XP should be both closed port ..Tor ..224 carbed XP's have a different intake mounting so you need to swap out the old shape one on the SE carb to put the 224 on a SE. That seems to be the main change from SE to XP.
Funny we were just talking about this. I had to put a 163 on an XP to try it, and you don't have to change the block, you just have to use the 224 bolts with the 163. The block in the XP is threaded smaller.

Is that by keeping the old style filter with the 1 centre bolt ...don't the XP's have a 2 bolt filter and housing on the 224 ?
Edit : That has prompted me to be more "careful " in looking at the IPL !!
Only shows the 266se 1981 as having the 61 filter and 1 screw ..all 2 screw filter and body after ,SE or XP.
Guess what yours truly has !? Assumed , "Wrongly" the change was Se to XP ..Doww
