I can't make the full number out ether ! only pic iv got and the saw has been move on to a new home . Sorry about that .
it's interesting to see that Husky also used Gilardoni on their 242, but then, they did the same on 262 also, I think they are rare.
I have one 242 xpg, serial 5410251, year 95 week 41, has Mahle cylinder :)

Well it was a new one to me..never came across one other than Mahle. Did a low tech head to head with a 242xp with a M and the 242p with G ..G cylinder juuuuust felt like it had a wee bit more torque. Hey ..there good little saws regardless. 42 Special is excellent with a bit of gentle fettling though..have one as a day to day user.

Some models came with a full assortment of Mahle, Kolbensmidt (KS) and Gilardoni OEM cylinders (262xp and 670 Super/Champ are those I know of so far).

I haven't heard of a 242 with a KS jug yet (that I can recall), but I wouldn't be surprised if one or more turned up.

That would explain why it was a strong running saw like my own 254 with a OEM cylinder once given some love.
Thanks both of you…(Sawtroll &Tor R) for some really useful info.

Love this saw. 288xp + cajones.

Elect (joe) worked it over. Jon the bar czar hooked me up with the sugi. It's no longer this pretty. Even if I don't need a big saw, I find way to run it.

All this 42 242 talk made me run down to dads and grab his to see why cylinder it has. It appears to be Mahle. I have tried to trade buy and steal this saw from him but he will not part with it. He bought it about 20 years ago from a guy for 200 bucks. It has never failed and continues to saw great. I believe it is a 93 model and not sure what week.
