Yeah small multi turbo engines with a gazillion speed transmission and tons of electronics is great when it's great. Wait till it has issues. When it's at the dealer for a month or 3. I'll take the older stuff I can repair myself and sacrifice some power and fuel mileage. Diesel trucks are a sh!t show. I know more people with new $70k trucks that can't keep them out of the shop and they need them for work. It all stems from emissions, epa, politics, etc. I'll stop now before I get too deep lol.
It's both good and bad with the complexity as you stated. The fact is the internal combustion engine is at the end of it's lifespan in automobiles. The issue was always batteries, as electric is superior in nearly every way. I know most don't want to hear that, but it's just fact. It's taken only a decade for electric to surpass what took internal combustion well over 100 years.

If gas prices keep going up over time people will definitely be more inclined to go electric. They just need to get the range and reliability dialed in.

Also, how long will the batteries last, and what is the recycling plan???

Also, if everyone has electric cars, will we need to rebuild the grid?

Will there be more "brown outs"?

And, if we go all green, will there be any trees or farmland left?

Sorry, but I'm not sold just quite yet.

Your just over thinking it. What if wind stops blowing? No need for food farms, we can live off of wind and solar farms. Take a hard look at wind generator and they are not so eco-friendly.

I'm not anti electric by any means. But they've still got a lot to do still before they take over. The range, charging times, batteries, etc. On the commercial and work truck side of things it def isnt happening anytime soon. From big rigs right down to my plow truck. You think I can plow for 20 hours straight during a storm in a electric pickup? It's hard enough to keep customers happy now lol. Right now it's works "ok" for local commuter cars. And electric is far from green. It sounds good on paper. It's the instant gratification. I've read studies that hybrid/electric vehicles are more harmful to the environment that a fossil fueled vehicle from the start to the end of its life. Like I said I'm not against electric, but as of right it's place is limited. I sure do love my cordless tools though!!!

So, there is a jam up on the freeway on a hot sweltering day, so folks leave the AC on while they are stopped, and all those electric cars have to be towed away!

Funny you bring up the ac. Semi valid point...traffic jams. Friend of mine has an EV...says the heater on it absolutely kills his range "duh"...but necessary to keep windows clear and somewhat warm. So he drives to work keeping heat to a minimum so he can make it. Not my idea of fun. Stranded on the freeway in a blizzard? Yikes.

I also agree that I LOVE my 20V cordless tools, especially since my cabin is 2 mi in off the grid!

It is amazing how long the hedge trimmer will last, but the leaf blower sucks down batteries FAST!

Drills and impact last a long time, saws OK, but my battery powered vacuum is a life saver! Cleans window sills, cob webs in the rafters and mouse droppings!

(all 20 V DeWalt).

The cabin has 2 Solar Panels, 2 deep cycle batteries and an inverter and LED lights. It works much better in the Summer than in the Winter! I think the fan on the inverter sucks down more power than the lights!

But it is real nice to be off the grid and just flick a switch and have lights! Won't tell you how many years we used to run the Coleman lanterns!

The end of this video touches on the amount of space required for solar power.

That assessment of the solar footprint does not align with what I am seeing. If that were all it took, we would be there by now.

Big oil and other fossil fuel businesses have enormous political influence, this often slows technological and societal advancement. There is too much money and many jobs that rely on fossil fuels for it to end quickly. We also have reluctantly to change, either from simple stubbornness to political propaganda that influences our minds.

IMO, Natural Gas is the best thing for the here and now, but the current Admin is killing it.

Makes no sense to be asking Saudi Arabia and Russia to increase output!

Also, makes no sense to make everyone pay so much more.

I'm a retired Certified Fraud Examiner. I judge people on What they DO, not what they SAY.

Trump reduced CO-2 emissions by 25% while providing an abundance of clean Natural Gas at low cost.

Why were Obama / Biden burning so much oil and coal to generate electricity (instead of cheap, clean, abundant Natural Gas)?

Not political, just the facts.

Case Closed!
