It's all a SH!t show. That's the short snd sweet. Without getting too far into depth and ruining the thread. How bout them 462's and 500i's??? Lol. And carbed 462's floating around? You know for when the zombies come.

I think that sonce Stihl just revised the 462 piston and cylinder, I'd go for one of those also.
I’d like to try one of the new ones too just to see if they gave it a little more torque (wider powerband). That’s all it really needed, otherwise very nice saw.

2nd for a 461 ported it's better suited to ham fisted use with a longer bar than both the 462 and 500 i

Depends on what you want to do with your saw. The 462 and 500 are a good deal lighter than a 460/460 or 7900/7910.

If you have to do liming with the bucking, I'll take the lighter saw any day of the week!

The 462 cuts very fast if you let it run, and the throttle response blows the older saws away (which is also nice when liming).

Both my 462s are ported, and for the majority of the stuff I do, they hit the sweet spot.

@markds2 i think J-Dog is talking to you Mr ported 500 and 7910.
Well, I love my 500i but haven't run the 7910 long enough to really get a good feel for it. Kevin did port the 7910 with a wiiiiide power powerband (the dyno graph shows it puts out over 8HP between 8500 and 12500 rpm) and my initial thought is that it's more forgiving than the 500i, especially when using the dogs.

my 021 is very light for limbing. I can hold it with one hand. It’ll cut wood bigger than it should.
