If buying a new 562 you should probably order one in direct from the factory to assure you're getting the most updated model possible. Aside from the problematic carb they have a problem with the plastic bearing cages and I suspect that's from the cages facing the wrong direction and they warp from heat. Every other saw model with those plastic bearing cages have them facing the other way and that problem doesn't occur as often if at all.

Wow thanks for all comments guys , that's why a like this forum
you need one more category/selection in your poll,,,,

3rd option: Get the 562 & Keep them both!!!! the 562 of My BIL's w/20" bar semi chisel chain will destroy 24" black Locust and make you grin from ear to ear when it hits that rev boost when its buried in the cut,,, Bone stock!!!

Ok so I'm just a crazy firewood cutter(not for hire) from the sticks that loves chainsaws, especially ported ones. I have or had stock 026's 16"and 262 18-20", a ported 254 18", 562 20", 371 25",stihl 460 25" and bigger saws 28"++++. I just can't seem to put down the 562. I have purposely not put any bigger bar than a 20" on the 562 just to keep saws around. Lol! But there will be a judgement day coming soon. I was one of those guys that hated the AT until I tried one. I know how to adjust carbs and make them run but the AT takes everything out of it. I was also scared about having to take it to the dealer for service, but there is plenty of knowledge through our sites to get beyond it and get it fixed. I actually have a husky dealer ask me now how to fix the hesitation issue's on the 562 because husky has given him the run around.

The 262 is a great saw with a great following. Husky has always had a stout 60cc class. Starting with the 161,61,262,357 and now 562. Any of those can make a great runner. Right now for the price of a nice clean 262 that is "25" years old there are better options out there. I guess it all comes down to what's affordable or what's in front of you.

Yes but its funny we are all debating which is better, the latest and greatest husky available or a 20 year old designed saw. To even be able to compare the two is a true testament to the greatness of the 262. If the av, fuel consuption, ease of starting and whatever else isnt superior on the 562 then Husqy has failed. Old muscle car vs new "muscle car". Both great saws just boils down to preference imo.

I totally agree with you. Now if the question was should I keep a clean '89-'92 KS HDA 87 262 or buy a 562 then I would probably lean towards the 262 because they are harder to come by.

I do agree but it also comes down to the price of the saw.

Well that's exactly where I'm at , I'm going to keep the 261 and convert it being I have the parts to do so already. I found a good deal on a 562xp but it's ported and the el46 carb. I'm getting that then probably sell the one I like the least. Maybe keep it too

If having ported not really on the cylinder. Mahle will make a good candidate. On carb yes. If you can find one and someone is willing to sell it. They are unicorns and hard to come by.

People just want the KS jug and with hda87 combo because it is the hardest to find in original form. Its not that they perform better after work and prob not alot better even if left untouched. People just want them cause few have them. They are a 262 status symbol imo.

I got the 562xp , it was ported but it doesn't look like it was radical which is fine, it's got a pop up piston but the base wasn't cut. The muffler I thought wasn't ported enough , I removed the entire baffle and painted with the ceramic header paint, it sounds mean now.
Before I worked on the muffler I ran 2 tanks through it. It's a fast saw that's for sure.

It was a deal for sure , I had to use my own bar and chain so it was just the PH .
The guy told me he bought 5 of them most of them bad main bearings. He gets saws from dealers. He told me a guy melted 3 of them and I guess he was using some off brand premixed fuel.
As efficient as these saws are I'm definitely mixing the gas on the rich side. This saw sips the fuel and basically when you think about it's getting less oil then a regular 60cc saw unless it's mixed richer. I'm running it 40:1 right now. Seems to still burn really really clean even at that ratio.
