If you already have everything for the 262 and its in exceptional condition then just have it hopped up. You're looking at anywhere from $250 - $350. Make sure the crank seals are replaced when the work is done.
Then you'll have money to work with if you go smaller on a two saw set up.

262 is really a great saw, I sure love the ones I have.
I tested JRed 2260WH (560XPG), what I love with those new saws is how ergonomic and how great their AV system is.

I'm in process of replacing crank seals ,rebuilding the carb , replace the fuel line filter etc
I was going to just send the piston and cylinder out was the plan to scarr52.
It's in pretty good shape for a 98 model.
Right now I got .013 " squish with no gasket so I was thinking of a .035 pop up piston and take some off the deck.

Yea the AV system on the new saws is superior
over the years it's the av system who have improved alot over the 2xx serie, there was awesome 2xx serie saws, strong like hell, but their av wasnt like we see on the 5xx serie saws, as older we get as more important that part is.
Whatever you choose to use your money on between those two you will be happy with either one of them.

I like my 2260 better than my 562, its smaller. With a 2260 you can interchange bars with the 262
that is very true. It took long time before we got the 562 here, somehow people like to have the lighter 60cc here with short mount bar.

I got a 261 I was planning to do a 262xp conversion to, I already have everything but I'm debating on spending money porting it or just buy a 562xp.
Any input would be appreciated it's a tough decision for me .
I have owned a 562 and 262 both ported and mm. Both ran great and av is better on the 562. I sold the 562 and still have the 262 and its my go to saw. I would not sell my 262 to get another 562 but i also wouldnt sell a 562 to purchase 262. Both great and you win with either. Since you already have the stuff for 262 mod why not complete that and see how you like it. Its hard to beat a ported 262!

I will say i have never seen any threads on 'why my hda87 carb wont tune right'. But theres alot of 562 carb threads even with updated carb they have been known to have issue. ( ported warranty voided)

Just saying.........
Yea true, it seems most auto tune issues are with the 562xp
