Tried that. Filter must have been put on by a gorilla.:coleman: I'm no sissy but that filter won't budge hot or cold. Can't get to it to stab it with a screwdriver, either.

Lots of folk over tighten filters big time I run a fleet and usually I can get em off with my hand I tighten all by hand
I tighten by hand as well and go about 1/4 past snug. I've had right ones b4, no comment, but this one is more stuckeder than any others.

Yeah they sometimes stick themselves can you get to it with a strap wrench? Or big channel locks? I just hate buying a filter wrench cause they ain't much use for nothin else ... Hard to comment on what wrench to buy I like the ones with a metal band that the handle can pivot on personally I agree once in a while I start cussing at them...

Chisel and hammer is how I broke mine loose after a dealer oil change. 2011 truck with the egr in place. Remove air box lid and then take hose loose from turbo and stuff towards firewall as far as it will go. Give you enough room to get in there with a wrench as well. I have a wrench like a big pair of pliers I use if I over tighten it by hand.

I have the second one, If it's on really tight, that one will slip until it bends the filter. I had one on the Cummins really tight and had to use this to get it off. I also had to make the points sharp with a file so it would dig into the top rim on the filter. had to put some back and arm into it but it came off finally.

idk where the filter is on the 6.7 but my 04 5.9 is under the airbox, right next to the inner fender, I cut a slit in the fender so I can lift it out of the way when changing, then it just springs back when I'm done...I just use the band type wrench...

I hate to think I have to remove all that stuff to change the filter.

I'll check it out when I get back home.
It's not bad at all. I don't like doing it from the bottom. Too many times the filter leaks out some when broke loose. You can reach it from there easy on mine. Just not wanting to take a bath

that's why I cut my inner fender so I could do it from the side...but I don't have any emission BS on mine so I don't know if that's possible with a newer truck

None of that is in the way from the side. It's not really in the way from the top either. The intake hose blocks it mostly.

Yes the newer dodges suck at getting to the oil filter. The worst is getting a filter off of a new truck in for the first oil change. Way to tight.

I do use the second tool for most filters but also have a snapon kit FWK7A that fits the bottom of most filters.

The 5.3L in my half ton has the jeezless filter nestled in tight to the oil pan so only the bottom cup style wrenches work. Taking it off by hand usually is not an option as you can't get your paw around the thing to twist it!

Filter locations is one thing Ford got right on the 6.4. Both were easily reached on top of the engine. Then they had to go and put another fuel filter on the frame rail.

At least they finally put them where you can get to it. Do they still have a fake funnel that doesn't actually catch the oil?
