16 here now, they say much colder by the weekend. I don't see how you northern guys stand it!! I am freezing, Two pellet stoves going and three big propane stoves burning, with two electric heaters upstairs for the girls. Still cold in this old house! ( don't forget the electric blankets ) Brrrrr!

And here you go, this is how you try to get some heat in a 150 year old house. It has 6 stoves and 2 fire places and zero insulation. With two 375 gallon propane tanks, and 7 tons of pellets per year and you are still cold here. ( did I forget to mention the two 220 volt wall heaters and the 110 volt heater also ) Hmmm, two plug in heaters also. As you can see why I don't cut fire wood any more.

Stay warm my friends!

Yes, massive fuel bill, The tanks are filled several times a year, plus pellets, Much cheaper to tear it down and build a new house. The pellets have helped a lot. The 7 tons brought the propane bill down several thousand dollars per year, as I will flat refuse to pay, or can not pay 2,000 dollars a month to be cold, The pellet stoves are a constant heat like a wood stove when it is not extremely cold, then the propane stoves kick on, as is tonight. As I type this they are all going, and two heaters upstairs. Only two tons pellets left, So I will be hooking up the big trailer to get three more tons tomorrow.

Dam do you have an attic? A layer of some blow in stuff could do wonders.

Yes. Have looked into that about 30 years ago. Long story, but the walls will not take insulation like you think. I did put vinyl siding on the old house about 30 years ago with 1/2" r max, underneath which helped a lot from when we used to have to feed 6 or seven fires every day. ( ie pickup load every other day ) F-- That. I am to crippled up to carry wood up to the second story to keep a fire place going all night. ( this house has a fire place upstairs )
