I grew up running my dads 044. He always said, if you are man enough to start it you are man enough to run it :) i'd be curious to know how many times i jerked on that thing before i was finally "man" enough to get her to pop. I know it was a lot.. haha! That was dads rule for anything gas powered, chain saws, lawn mower, 3/4 wheelers, dirtbikes, snowmachines, etc.. i remember the first time i ever got the 250 2 stroke bike to kick over. I couldnt of been ANY happier as a kid, for about 6 minutes... that was a painful lesson right there.. ha!!!

Just make sure he wears ear plugs ALL the time (with guns too!!) Or he will be like me, 33yrs old and deaf as f.... haha!

See how they are wearing PPE?

Dad's Rules.
  1. Put on your PPE before running a saw.
  2. Be aware of your surroundings.
  3. Never refer to the chain as a blade.
  4. Keep the chain out of the dirt.

View attachment 71874@PA Dan letting his daughter run my 395. She's hooked already on saws Dan lol
Hey Roller thanks for letting her run that 395! I had to make a cut after her. That's a sweet running monster you have there! She sure didn't shy away from anything did she? I asked what do you want to run next and was amazed when she pointed at that big MAC! She sure is hooked! I picked up two 026's a couple years ago and said to my two boys you build it and when it runs you get to keep it. Looks like I need to find another builder and say the same thing to her!

Good to see the younguns showing interest in things like this instead of smartphones and video games.

Up here at my in-laws, I managed to run a few tanks in my Braapp Shack 357 blocking up some of their log pile in between running around helping the women with their garage sale. My 13 year old son was begging me to let him do some cutting, but I told him he needs to throttle back and watch how I work in the log pile (saw college as already mentioned previously). Log piles can be very tricky, and damn dangerous to boot and he just isn't ready for that level of awareness and safe operation.

I'll let him try my bone stock 346NE next and save the Braapp Shack 357 for a little later. He always wears chaps, hearing and eye protection, gloves, and proper work boots. At this stage of the game, I want to be sure he is as protected as I can make him in case he makes a mistake that could be deadly without PPE.

Repped!

Caleb started at around 10 with a 330T, lots of me leaning over and helping him learn how, where, why, and why not. As he got bigger, so did the saws. Eventually he was using my MMWS 028S more than anything. After I sold that saw he started using my MMWS MS390, or MMWS 4000. That's when I decided he needed his own, so he would leave my saws alone. He got his ZCS 359 at age 15.
