Nonsense … quality materials properly designed will last just as long, if not longer, than simply bigger and heavier. Just look at the new crank, rods and pistons they are now making (like the stroker kit in my Mustang) that are far lighter and more durable than what was available in the past.
A sports car is NOT for working. You and I are making two completely different analogies. Using more exotic and expensive light materials also drives cost out of control.

The 462 does cost more, right??? In all honesty, neither of us know the answer to this question (quality of materials), I was just cautioning against presuming.

Yeah, the cost of a 462 is silly.

I am simply saying things built for play are not built like things for work or a specific function.

If it lasts as long as my 044 (and I believe it will), it will be worth every penny!

As my Dad used to say "Quality will be remembered long after the price paid is forgotten". I honestly don't remember what I paid for the 044, but I do remember it seemed like a lot at the time. The 462 is a game changer.

All I know is I’m tired of speculating about the 462/572 and want to run them in a production environment some day and see what’s up. I’m sure one is better at something than the other. However stihl guys will buy the stihl and husky guys will buy the husky at the end of the day I think.

The oiler must be working well, my oil tank is low when my fuel tank is low, and I did not even enlarge the hole in the bar (as I often do) on the longer bars.

I know I’m not thrilled with the price increase with both of them. Both are about 1,000$. We bought two 372’s for 600$ each last year at a logging expo and our 390 was 1,000. But I guess inflation....

It all about your relationship with the dealer I suppose, and who supplies the dealer. I know some of the folk on the forum can get saws more affordably than others for varying brands.

And my 10 mm 044 won't last long either!!!

Alot of guys out west killed the smaller wrist pin quick, that's why it was changed.

Occasional firewood doesn't exactly test what a saw is made of.

I know guys that cut a *s-word ton of firewood with 025's they've had for 15 years.

Some saws do things better and vice versa.
You buy what works for you.

Jeff had no problems with his clamshell and other have.

Others have probs with spring a/v others don't

Who cares as long as your tools don't get STOLEN.
Then we have a real problem!

This.

I'm not knocking anything, I think stihl makes a fine product and the 462 is bound to be a hit for certain markets. Which ever saw has the toughest bottom end, greatest fluid capacity, and ability to maintain air filter cleanliness will be the winner in the log woods.
