I had a MaxFlow on my 044 and switched to a Redbeard because it fits under the stock cover. Redbeard seems to start struggling to breath after only a couple of tanks in clean conditions. How long do you go between cleanings with the MaxFlow?
Several weeks. I clean my MaxFlow’s about twice a season, no joke.

Every couple days I just pull the cover, brush off the caked on sawdust with a toothbrush, replace the cover and go. I do pull the filter and check the carb throat for fines once in a while, but I have never experienced any before cleaning my filters out of spite.

That being said, dull chains and really dirty conditions could warrant sooner cleaning intervals. Keep an eye on it.

Remember when @Mattyo made a 288xp Hightop cover out of high strength fiber plastic? Spent his own money on design and production out of his basement!
The fact that a supposedly well established company like Maxflow can't just make a complete top cover is lazy , I've had their 088 kit and the plastics were garbage.
Some members on here are literally reproducing vintage plastic pieces for McCulloch and Homelite at home with 3D printers! Why in the world would I cut up my saws factory cover for an aftermarket filter when a new cover should be included in the price?
It honestly doesn’t bother me any. Plus being able to use the filter cover nut ensures the filter assembly is tight and leak free.

I remember buying kits for the 1128 series at $70.

For $130, it should come with a new top cover vs hacking mine up. I’ll have to see what the builders/dyno guys get with these before taking the plunge.
I remember when gasoline was $1.14/gallon… Everything costs more these days. Your point is moot 🤣

Not moot at all. They have the 1128 kits for $75 on their website, with their cover included.

What makes the 462 kit command $130 and I have to hack up my cover?

$1.14 ? How old are you ? I can remember somewhere in the 80 cent range. Most of my youth it was in 90 cent territory. I remember filling up a five gallon can for five bucks buying gas for my four wheeler.

I'll try brushing it off when it slows down. Probably has about half the foam a MaxFlow does but figure it should go longer than a couple tanks.

I get what you’re saying. But I also get that it wasn’t as easy to make this kit for the 462 as it was for the legacy saws.

This new kit also has added a “stack” to mount the filter to the carb, and also a completely different shaped cage and filter, to fit the 462’s slim profile, plus the cover. All of that cost extra.. Legacy saws just needed a filter, cage, and cover.
