They are great filters, but most versions will not fit under the stock covers (IMO a PITA) (661 is the exception), and I would rather clean my filters more often than go through cleaning a Max Flow. Personal choice.
I agree with you to a certain degree Mike but the clincher for me was the fines inside the carby throat .It didn’t matter what I did I couldn’t stop the fines maxflow totally ended that problem. And yes it’s a PITA oiling the filter but it’s easier than changing a piston.

Ahhh mate I'm working through a backlog of saws to build.
Just finished getting my 066 pipe saw running, ported my 090 and built a hot 395.
Tomorrow is an 066 and then maybe a 44/46 hybrid and take the porting on my 084 a bit further.

The 462, after running it I was pretty damn happy with how it went with just a muffler mod.
Its going to be my main firewood saw from here on in and all the older saws will be moved into full time race duties as I gear up to get into racing for some fun.

I want a nice 90cc class saw to run for larger firewood as well so need to save up to get a 661 next year.

I plan to go inside the 462 but need to really rap my head around exactly how the strato saw motor works first.

Gotcha Tony. You are a busy man! You build some strong saws for sure. [emoji482]

That is an impressive firearm, but for self defense I would choose my 40 with HPs over your 10 w/FMJ, and if you ever conducted any ballistic testing I think you would agree with me.

Bundle some newspapers with twine, each about 6" thick. Put rocks on top of them and soak them in water over night. Then, put them in a box to keep them in line and conduct some ballistic testing. You can hit it in 2 or 3 different places, then mix up the order of the bundles, or even reverse them.

Then test 22, 22HP, and FMJ and HP pistol, 223, 30 cal rifle, and shotgun.

Then conduct the same testing with a series of 1/4 steel plate.

The results will be very enlightening. And if you are searching for a good hunting bullet, test a Barnes X bullet. The four pedals have less surface area and will penetrate much deeper than a full mushroom bullet. Also, keep in mind the spinning will cut veins and arteries. If you ever plan to hand gun hunt, it is the type of bullet to use.

I know Jeff, and I agree, but a clean wound is no match for what a soft or HP will do. A poor hit with a HP will disable someone.

The only argument for the FMJ is to penetrate heavy clothing.

All things being equal, a soft point of decent construction is far more devastating than a Barnes X.

In open field shooting to drop the deer on the spot, yes. For less meat damage and a reliable kill on any size or angle of entry, I will choose the Barnes.

I also appreciate that there will be no lead fragments in my meat.

I stopped using a 270 w/130 gr bullets because they wildly deflect after they contact brush. However, they are devastating when they hit something. Nearly cut 2 Woodchucks in half at 70-80 yds. But, IMO, too much meat damage for something that you want to eat.

I now use an 06 w/168 gr Barnes loaded a bit hot. I don't mind tracking 50-100 yds, but I want a reliable kill and good penetration.
