I've messed with advancing the ignition a bunch on these saws and it seems 020 to 030 off the key puts you in the kicking zone, I've noticed gains to 050 and on a play saw that's where I put them but they do not kick, once you get passed 030 they stop kicking but keep gaining.

My 064 is advanced the width of the key, the farther I go the better it runs but at 020 it would rip your hand off. Lol

Do these Stihl saws advance ignition timing dynamically while running?

The Shindaiwa saws I run have 3 piece ignitions and dynamically advance timing as RPM increases, just like on a car distributor.

I probably wouldn't advance a work saw that far but I have a mighty sporty 064 that's advanced the whole key

I filed .040 off mine. And it kicked like a biotch......but then I noticed too long of a screw from the top cover hitting the flywheel. Good to go now

And I use this to square up my corners.

Do you grind at a pretty fast speed or slower when you bridging the transfers to not not chip the nikisil. Thanks for the awesome thread.

And I use the roughest burrs to grind with too. Don't worry about the plating. You have to smooth the port edges anyway. For that, I use a diamond ball about 1/4" in diameter.

I've been craving some saw time, haven't had time to work on em or run em.......stupid job

We are gonna cut on Sunday. But we're just clearing stuff out of the fields. Nothing large. I'll haul back something to test saws in, but nothing that would make a good video.

It's another full time job trying to keep wood that's big enough to try these saws in, drive a 10 mile circle around my house and you won't find anything but cookies.
