I’ll echo the BLR. Lots of great features, and among them that I hold at the top is the detachable magazine. I’ve got a .358 in stainless and camo (actually Dura Touch over there walnut). The high gloss models dull out nice with some 0000 steel wool too.

I know I get real tired of having to work the lever to empty the tube mags in both Marlin and Winchester. If I was set on a more “traditional” lever gun in a classic lever cartridge I’d go for the Henry because of how it’s loaded and unloaded.

Al’s recommendation of Savage 99 and Winchester 88 is a great one too. Some mighty fine cartridges in those rifles.

While the Marlins and the Winchester 94 hold a lot of romance nostalga there are other lever guns I feel are much better.

The savage 99 a nice lever gun made for years and chambered for some healthy calibers.
A few of the most popular calibers were the .243 Winchester .250-3000 Savage, .30-30 Winchester, .300 Savage, .303 Savage and .308 Winchester.

My father in law had one a 1907 build in 303 Savage the rotery mag rounded the bottom of the reciver so it fit nicly in your hand for carrying. Had a tang mounter Lyman #2 peep sight.

My sister had a 1972 model in 308 Winchester, was drilled and taped at the factory for mounting a scope.

My dad bought a Winchester 88 in 1969 in 284. they were also chambered for the 243, 308 and 358.

I am here to tell you the bolt locks up as well as any bolt action rifle but you do not want to shoot factory 284 ammo with it. It will rattle your teeth and if you have a scope dot your eye.
My dad was a skiny little fellow weighed about 115 pounds at the time. we started hand loading it useing IMR 4350 charge toped with a 120gr HPBT Serria bullet. worked great on deer and recoiled a WHOLE lot less than the factory ammo.

A neighbour at my deer camp has a 308 model and is about like shooting a model 70.

I have a Savage 99 in .308. Good rifle. Also have a Marlin 1895 in.4570. My camp rifle is a Rossi src 92 chambered in .357 magnum

Winchester model 94 gets my nod. I have one from 1947. It well worn but I love it! An older Savage 99 it a great gun as well. What can I say I am a Winchester fan. Although I'll never buy a new one since they are no longer made in the USA. If get another itch to buy any Winchester's they'll have to be New Haven one's!

Other lever actions I have include a Henry H001T .22 LR, Browning BLR .308, and 1982 Marlin 1894C .357. Love ' em all, 'specially the .357. I've turned down a few $1000.00 offers for it.
I've been in the same shoes with my 44. I'm envious of your 357. I want one bad, but not as bad as the other guys.. lol

Wow, Thanks guys for all the information. Since I live in Iowa maybe I will look into something different than a 30-30 so I can use it for deer hunting also.

Don't count the 30-30 out as a deer caliber/round. Bet there are even many a Canadain that have taken moose with the 30-30 too.

Same with bears the 30-30 has done the job more than once.

A new Marlin scoped with Hornaday soft tip ammo will dump a deer out to 300 yards.
Hard to remember which caliber I shot more deer with 30-30, 300 Savage or 270 Winchester.
But suffice to say the 30-30 always held up its end.

Love the .250 and .300 Savage, very useful and underappreciated rounds! Last time I checked, Savage would chamber a new rifle in one of these cartridges upon request.

My uncle used to shoot a 30-06 in lever action. Don’t remember which model it was though.

I’ve killed more deer, wild hogs, black bears with two Marlin 336CS .35’s than all other of my rifles combined...and I gots a boatload. .35 Rem launching 200 grains is a damn good brush gun. It ain’t no long distance powerline caliber...but it’ll hit ‘em like a freight train.

Most likely a Browning BLR.I know they would take the long action cartridges. Maybe a Winchester 88.
Yep...prob a BLR. One of my older brothers has a couple of ‘em in .30-06.
