My 50 caliber knight inline muzzleloader launches the most lead at a time. 270, 308 are my highest power rifles. Actually my 12gages launch a mean slug too. If what I have won't kill it, nothing else I could buy would either. We are limited to .5" as anything above that is a destructive device, according to our federal overlords. Lol
Makes one wonder with the .50 destructive device when there are .54 caliber and larger muzzle loaders not to mention the 12 gauge is .70 caliber.🥴

Do you handload 45-70 rounds? Supposedly you can load them past 4,000 lb-ft muzzle energy, but factory loads are light so they don't blow up old guns.
I've shot HSM +p and Buffalo Bore +p in my JSM 1895. My old torn up shoulder can't take it so I stick with the milder loads.

Pawn shop score, Remington 700 BDL in 7mm Remington Magnum with a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10X50. Pretty much paid what the glass was worth and got the rifle for free.

If I am on my game it will just about put four through the same hole at 100 yards.

The 7mm Rem. mag. is my favorite for 3 reasons: it is an inheritantly accurate cartridge; it has more than enough power for any North American big game; it is very flat shooting. My original one was, is, a model 700 Rem. BDL which wears a custom stock of Himalayan Circassion walnut. It has accounted for 4 Dall sheep, 1 Stone sheep, 4 Caribou, 2Moose, & 2 Antelope. It has put 3 shots inside of 3 in. at 300 yds! Last, but not least, I once hit a crow with 2 consecutive shots at 589 yds!!! I liked the cartridge so well that I bought an old original M70 Winchester in 300H&H mag., sold the barrel & stock, & had a 24in. Shilen barrel & custom stock of fiddleback American black walnut made for it. The accuracy is about equal to that of the 700 Rem., & it has chronographed at 3200 fps using a 160gr Nosler partition bullet. I have also fired a 300 Weatherby mag. & was unimpressed with it's accuracy. The recoil would really get your attention. Other big kickers I have dealt with are the 338 Winchester, which also was very accurate, & an old style M70 Winchester in 375H&H mag. I shot the 300H&H only once!!! No thank you!!

Few years back, I had necked up a 9.3x62 Mauser to accept .410 350 grain Swift A-frames. The wildcat was housed in a browning 95. Original 30-06 barrel bored out to .410 bore and chopped to 20.

Affixing a custom scout rail with 8-30 screws, topped it off with a 2.75 fixed scout. With 200 yard zero, she hit 11 inches low at 300.

This was no fkn 45-70. These loads were around 55,000 psi with the 350 grainers clocking 2300 fps.

It worked, very well. Like anchored, in one shot:

That is a great Moose!! It is rare to find one that is so symettrical & with great paddles & palms. The ones with greater spreads have the paddles angled out as they go upward & usually do not have their total antler material nearly as well distributed. Congrats on a real trophy!!

Muzzleloaders are exempt as far as I understand. Also black powder firearms aren't even classified as firearms. Can order a black powder pistol through the mail. Always wanted one of the 20mm anti tank rifles, I believe you could order them in the 60's for like $100. Lahti and Solothurn were the ones I think.

I have a REM model 7 in 300WSM that’s a handful to shoot but great mountain rifle to pack around. I bought a Weatherby vanguard in .338WM but have not shot it yet, thinking about putting a brake on it. Have a bunch of .388 bullets to load up but now we have to shoot copper.

Took the Whelen out for the first time today, local indoor range so it was only 35 yards. Ran it with the open sights and off hand, they weren't all in the same hole but they were all touching. Now, I realize that this may as well have been point blank range but I was well pleased for a first outing.

Thanks but no trophy. It's just food. Its whatever comes into the call. There are a bunch of antlers like that atop my connex, mostly just to keep the sled dogs from chewing on them. I have never had done any taxidermy. Can't afford that sht, and it's not really my thing even if I could afford it.

Bout my only trophy is my collection of canning jars and my pressure cookers.

We can still shoot lead at targets and bad guys, I think.

Win the lottery, one of the first things I'd do is buy some time shooting that 25mm chain gun on the Bradley.

The 357 Coonan hand cannon won't be on the market.

Most if not all are going to be for sale. My FFL guy is $20 for the transfer fee's. Which is AT COST of the paperwork from the US. Government. Reason is my father passed away. And I want to sell the guns my one Uncle is trying to steal from his now dead brother. If it wasn't for my other Uncle, no one would believe me that my other Uncle would be doing this. My father was a gun loving, God fearing lifetime NRA member. Death sucks and I don't even wish it on my POS Uncle, but it's even worse family memener can't even act like a decent human being. If he would've asked, I wouldn't gladly given him anything he wanted. Not asking for pitty! Just explaining why I am posting these. I DO believe most of the members on here are very good if not better human beings than the public at large. That being said and out of the way, here is a handful of others from his collection. There's a Mossberg Anniversary 30-06, 20241211_124345.jpg20241211_124345.jpg20241211_124222.jpg20241211_122601.jpg20220629_152641.jpg20220730_175017.jpgPanzer AR12, Radical Arms 5.56, couple Kimbers, Para, Beretta, Browning HI point, etc....

Biggest I own is a marlin 444SS, I don’t like the crossbolt safety but other than that it’s a good rifle.
I looked for 8 years before I found one locally.
I shot a model 29 in 44 magnum and I found it easier on me then a Winchester 1892 in the same.
There is a company that makes a saddle ring to take the place of that cross bolt safety

Which is why I mentioned the OP mentioned them being classified as destructive devices wherever they are from, I know a guy that ordered 54 cal Great plains also a 50cal NEF handi rifle through the mail as well as a pair of 5 1/2" Ruger Old Army cap and ball revolvers.

A company also made just a pin/bolt that fit flush with the outside of the receiver, there was also a set screw on the oem that made the cross bolt nonmovable if that is the cause of the dislike.

I’ve seen those as well. Honestly it’s never caused me malice, just seems redundant to me growing up using gramps marlin 1893 and then my 94 win.
I used the 444 for a bit when I had accuracy issues with the Winchester but it doesn’t really have a job. Biggest animals we have here are black bears and I’m not really concerned about them.
