Just don't use this stuff, heat and gas melt it.

Would 1184 be good for sealing around this tank stopper? I just found out today the tank was bone dry because it suddenly started leaking badly since the last time it was used. I might get a new stopper and seal it in with liquid gasket.

I went to school at Central Carolina Tech from 80 - 82. At that time 3M weather stripping adhesive was used a lot on gaskets as a dressing.

I've not thought about that in years. I wonder if it's fuel resistant?

In the 70s I used it to hold the trim on new Chevrolets, as well as holding valve cover gaskets on until you got them in place for the bolts. Nascar pit crews still use it to hold the lugs on the rims for those fast pit stops. And I still use it as well as Indian head gasket shellac at work, the other mechanics say I am nuts for using it still. But I have no leaks and I give them hell when they have to do a job over

It would seem to me if Permatex worked on 1950 Chevys it should work today .You don't use that stuff on head gaskets of course ,that would really be silly .If you felt the need, which I don't for case gaskets or base gaskets it would work .It's gasoline resistant unless they've changed the formulation which I doubt .It isn't alcohol resistant .So if the percentage of ethanol affects it or not I have no idea only to say it's never failed me .

I've used a crap load of the old stuff on plenty of clam shells (at least when I first began working on saws).
I must say that I never had a failure due to sealant on any saw.

Anything exposed to fuel i use three bond. For everthing else i use The Right Stuff. I have a box of sealants and have settled on these two as the best for me.

I think in this rather long subject discussion the fruit basket got mixed up. The apples got mixed up with the oranges .Sealants with regards to gaskets are not the same thing as those used to repair a leaky gas tank .

Ah yes ,cast iron table top .Johnsons paste wax works well .Of course that's old school like Permatex but it should still work well .Permatex would not work well on a table saw top .

Don't be stealing the watercolor brushes or my crayons either.
HF has flux brushes that work. Bend a brush brushes are smaller and work well too, they come in a box of about 50.

We have gopher tortoises around here. They get big like 100lbs. Live in burrows in sandy areas. They will let rattlesnakes live with them in the burrow.

The first time I even heard of gopher turtles or fact saw them was near Sebring Fla a few years back .Those things can fling dirt about as fast as a ground hog .Then on the other hand Florida has a lot of strange things or at least seem strange in the eyes of an Ohio country bumkin .
