I've heard vallorbe is good and some other brand Made in Portugal. I use to use pferd I think, the one with the pegasus, I didn't like them. I'll have to ask my dealer about those stihl files like you have @Wolverine

“The Stihl book” does not recognize that as an available product...

Bet it’s an old file made in Switzerland..

It is a dance for sure of trying to get all the components dialed in to work together to produce the quickest path through the wood.
I have a pretty decent collection of race chains from a lot of different guys, I will try to post up a few pics of some of the most drastic chains and maybe the guys here will chime in about what makes different features of a chain more suitable for different sizes of saws, types of wood, etc.
I need to do more testing as well, I have plenty of chains I have never even run yet LOL

OK. My dealers don't even know what square chain is, so they are out up here. Lol

One of the local Pa Posse found a dealer with a bunch of these. He moved them pretty quick and I scooped up a few. Definitely old stock as no one else has been able to source any.


Stihlfanboy, that's a good one right there... but yes, I like 'em. They leave a nice finish and are smooth cutters.

Junk man sent me the last 2 boxes I got. His saw shop had them on the shelf. $130~ a box of 10 or 12. I can’t remember

They last almost twice as long as the bahco so I can’t complain about price. Corners are a lot nicer as well

What's the file with the nicest corners for filing race chain? I like the stihl 3 corner file for just regular filing but it doesn't leave much of a side plate

Rakers are the final tuning for a race chain after you have the saw and bar and gearing and chain all mated up, you can take little quarter swipes to dial it in. JMO
