It's common problem for the primmer knob to wear a hole in that type of shroud so it pops thru .
An easy fix I always do is a piece of sheet metal , drill hole large enough so top of knob fits and pop rivet metal on underside of shroud .
Strip of metal just wide enough and 2 rivets to hold it .

You can't say that OMC didn't know better when they offered these for sale!

I imagine that they thought they should have models to compete with MTD and others sold in the big box stores. LawnBoy was always a Premium, top shelf product.

Cleaned her up today. Youngest son painted up some car parts over the winter. Used it as a spray bench. Whole top was black.
I may be buying one very similar to yours soon. I may need to locate a side discharge plate for it though as the current owner has the rear (Snapper-style) bagger setup and mulching plate for it, but can't recall if he has the discharge plate or not. I could always modify the mulching plate but would rather have all 3 capabilities as this mower will actually get used. A lot.

Growing up I ran the wheels of of two old lawn boys and a napper mowing yards for cash. I had a green to[ and a green and white top, both via my Grandfather. They were loud and they vibrated but the cut like no-one's business.

They indeed will vibrate if their blades are not balanced when sharpened. I learned the hard way... it also has a bad effect on the lower crank seal.

I would imagine. I checked them on a nail as best I could, but didn't have the best balancer...

I always balance with a screwdriver , if it sets level it's good , if one side dips take a bit more off till it's level . That's all you need to do , you don't need no special tool .

Lawn Boy also need the blade timed for the engine stroke as well . Example to visualize ....standing at the handle looking at a Brick Top model with the cyl pointing to the right at 3 o'clock . With the piston at TDC , the blade should be at 12 and 6 o'clock .

I'll have to see what the timing marks are for a 6.5hp Silver series. It runs VERY well, with only a hint of surging. I will clean the exhaust and carb screws soon and see where that gets me. Starts on the 1st or second pull though after 2 primes.

If the surging becomes an issue I found a real good fix for that where you change the jet and do a minor mod to the hole in the throttle plate .
Now if I could find that article again !!

I found this at a flea market. I believe the motor will drop right into one of my green decks. Low hours and in great shape. Even the wife thought it was a good deal![emoji106][emoji1]

Man, I'd keep it that way and use it. That has to be rare these days. But you probably can use a mower a lot more than edger.

Thanks for the advice. My mower runs great and I don't need another one so I'll keep this as an edger. Now if I only had more than 10 ft. Of sidewalk.........[emoji39][emoji39]

You have to marvel at the simplicity of these machines .
Fishnuts , can you get a measurement of the length of the crankshaft ? A pic of the crank where it comes out the bottom of the case would help .Also , is the fuel tank metal or plastic ?

I put that one new bricktop D 501 engine on a deck a month ago and it's on it's 4th tank of fuel , damn it runs nice ! Been thinking about installing the 2nd new one on a deck but seems a shame to take it out of the box where it has resided since the early 70's .

The fuel tank is metal. I'll go out and try to get you a pic of the bottom of the case.
