I have the cylinder back from Steve, so should be getting the case finished up this weekend.

Also, got the shrink tube I ordered.
I went with the 25mm stuff as I measured the tube at about 22mm.

It wrinkled a bit on the sharp bend.
But, I learned on the other part to pull it tight as you shrink it, gets out most of the wrinkles.

It's thinner than the stuff Stihl uses.
Could possibly go up to the 30mm stuff and go right over the original stuff if wanted.
Seems like it has decent grip, but won't know until it actually gets used.
It's also available in different colors if your into that kind of thing.

I did the same thing to my Makita after It melted of in a fire. It worked good. Do multiple layers to get it to the desired thickness. I also used the stuff that glues itself to the product it shrink over.

That's quite nice looking. Could always send it to @dall and have him suck the wrinkles out.

Would have to go up to the 30mm size in order to do that.

Forgot to add, link to it..

Is that included in the WV vacuum/pressure special or is it a separate fee?

I measured the base gasket that came in my gasket set.
From what I've read on the webz this was never a thickness offered by Stihl..so either I'm measuring wrong or something? There's a "raised" sealing ridge along the gasket. It will compress,at least in my mind, and change the thickness, but I think it should be taken into account if measuring it..or maybe not.

Anyhow, I dropped it over the piston.

Compressed the rings..
If you can see a gap between the compressor and piston, your rings are sitting on top of the locating pins

And dropped the jug home

The raised areas will compress. Should be about .018 measured at the edge.

That gasket measures about .019" as you just measure the flat part as it will flatten out when you tighten the cylinder. The kink in it just keeps pressure on it so its stays sealed.

Thanks.
I should measure the old one out of curiosity.
I'd think that ridge would still play a part in overall thickness?
Or, my brain is just going about it wrong. Been in alot of transmissions lately so selective washers, snap rings and clutch pack clearances are rattling around in my otherwise empty skull

Old one should be flat as a pancake.

If I would have had that intel prior, I would have peeled a few more thou off the base for you.

Yeah, but it will run.
Plus it could always come back apart.
I mean if I figured out how to do it once, I should be able to do it again..
