What you saw in the video is what you get.

Yes, i see a good runing 261, but when it's really true 30%+ only with a modded muffler and nothing else done to the saw, no porting, no ignition, no nothing than i must ask myself why i put all the work into this kind of saw's especialy with machining the cylinder etc.... :eusa_doh:

I stopped porting them the moment I finished the one in the vid. All I do are muff mods now.

That's what I was thinking Mason. With more of a load on chain and saw. Ported should really show through.
When you compared 3/8 to .325 on your ported 026 what was faster?

I talked to my dealer yesterday and asked him about the 462. He looked puzzled. He knows nothing about it. I had him call Stihl rep. His eyes opened wide. Asked him when they would be available in USA. He hung up and said Fall 2018. Then asked me how I knew about the saw. I just paused, laughed, and said it was all over the net. Lol

Should of told him your opening your own shop cause he isn't keeping up with the times! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Lol. You should see their faces when I tell them my saw runs and 4 strokes at 15800. LMAO.
I brought one in to show mechanic. He stood there with his mouth open and said it can't be. He he he he.
They now think I am crazy. Lol

I think there may be a little comparing Apples to Oranges.

Many M-Tron saws really wake up after a few tanks of fuel, and maybe this combined with a muff mod makes a big difference. I doubt you will see a 30% gain due to a muff mod on a broken in saw. That said I'm not doubting the 30% gain, I just think some of it may be break in.

Im guessing with a 16” bar .325 there’s not much difference between stock and ported. 20” 3/8 yes probably.

It's an 18" bar, running semi chisel 325 chain I think, tip buried in horse chestnut, which is about like poplar. Here's the vid of it stock, muffler modded, and then ported with the muff mod. If I recall, it had great compression as stock, too. Lemme see if I can find the pic... ah here:

All three vids were taken the same day, only a few hours apart, and in the exact same piece of wood. Bear in mind this is also nearly right at sea level, in very cool and damp air.

It is definitely stronger ported, and you can see the clutch cover is starting to stuff up with chips, but is it worth spending several hours on it and charging a couple hundred bucks? *Shrug*. If I had a 261, I wouldn't bother porting it. I'd remove the baffle and be done. I MIGHT gut the stratos, tho, as fuel economy on a 50cc means very little to me. But she pulls fairly strong with just the muff mod.

Pretty cool video showing the gains made.
Would have been cool to have a 4th video of a base gasket delete with muffler mod. See how it compared to a full woods port job.

What I like about the vid is since I didn't have to change the squish I was able to make all three vids the same day in the same conditions. I found it an eye-opener. Again, the changes could be so much because the muffler might be different? I am nearly at sea level in very thick air. I dunno. All I know is there's the vid. And also bear in mind I am not selling anything. I haven't ported a saw that wasn't mine in maybe 2 years? The saw in the vid I did was for toolnut, who lives not far from the estate where that was filmed.

Cool. What type of port job did you do? Mild? Moderate? Full out?
I thought there would be a bigger difference in the ported saw.

Wow, this improvement only by doing a MM is awesome till unbelievable. I did several analytic tests and comparisons in hundreds of timed cuts. The way how you cut (push, leveraging) has main influence into the cutting times. Also the wood, even the same wood couldn’t guarantee the same time. Also the chain has to bee the same. Therewhy I do the tests with different loads by checking the rpm‘s. In this way I can take a look to the improvement in torque and power.

The best way to compare and measure the gain is a power measurement.

No offense, but 30% sound's a bit to optimistic for me without proper cylinder work. I've done many 261 in recent years and i measure well up to 35% gains over stock, ported with a squish cut. But 30%+ only with a muffler mod, i'm not sure.

@blsnelling has done a good comparison about 261 mod's

But yes, to answer your question, i've done that, with timing advance. The 462 responds pretty nice to that!

This clip compares a stock and a modded (MM & ignition timing advance) 462 CMVW
Enjoy
