I always marvel at the relatively small diameter of the clutches & drums used on those models.

I own a first generation DOLMAR CA and it's clutch is likewise tiny.
Must have been state of the art back then in early 60s I guess

Pioneer had some very interesting chains over the years. I've been calling it "Rooster Tail" but it may actually have been the Dura Cut chain with the built in low vibration/anti-kick back design.



They had another chain with the depth gauge on the link ahead of the one with the cutter itself. I'll have to make a scan of the Pioneer chain pamphlet one day.

Love the innovation back then, chains today are just clones of each other.

Added this P28 to my bunch of saws.
Serial-number says model is P28S. Does anyone know what the "S" means? Since there is no "E" in model designation I guess she might have pointed ignition. Haven't looked into her yet but with a few drops of fuel into the carb she gave me some coughs.

That's what I had assumed already. Have found another source of information about the meaning of letters in Pioneer type designations:

S Safety Chain Break
H Half Wrap Handle
HP High Performance

If you put it to work, be careful with the AF cover...not very many of those left in as good of condition as that one.

Well my grandpa found me a P50. Old mill town so not surprised. Good compression and runs decent. Now to decide if I want to do a full restoration on it.

Yes, I know. Some people have searched AF covers for years and gave up finally.
This one is in extraordinary good condition. I was surprised when the saw came to me, hadn't expected it to be this good.

Out of section 10 carb adjustments
1074, P26, P28 low 1 to 1.25 - high is fixed.
