The metal bent but with resistance.
Nope, aint taking that deal. What I said was put a price on it damnit and free ain't a FAIR price
I'll take it for free. Screw that other Randy, Randy. Can't give a friend a chuck of scrap metal?
Looks like half of a small cotter pin.Curved on one side flat on the otherThe metal bent but with resistance.
I rebuilt this 044 sometime last winter. The case got split and new bearings were installed. I can't remember what all I replaced but it was a lot. I ran a couple tanks through it and then sent it to Tennessee. Since it's return I might have 8-10 tanks through it. I last used it in December when I cut up a huge oak tree that fell in someone's yard. A couple weeks ago I pulled some mufflers off my saws to get them powder coated. When I went to reinstall the other day something didn't look right! I have asked around a little and have some ideas on the issue. Anyone care to take a guess? If I have already asked you personally wait a while before you post your guess. I'll be digging into it later today.
So it wasn't a circlip or the wrist pin bearing...
How about the intake side of the piston...
Never saw a problem running. Saw was running fine and was warmed up before it got in the wood. I ran three saws that day and went through nearly two gallons of mix. Checked the other two and they are fine.found this in the crankcase?
Considering the steps I take when beveling a port.......that thing had to have ate something....somehow......someway.
I'll fix it.......but I know my port wasn't left rough enough to cause that.
Leaking flippy cap?
Someone posted a Failure Analysis report by Stihl somewhere on the forum. I read it and thought cool, it might give you some ideas orbit might not. If you haven't looked through it I recommend it, its a good read.
Ya I have spun it around to every angle I can get and it looks good!Dan have you taken a real good look at the big bearing on the crank?
I'd love to see the piston crown, up close.
I could see the carbon (evidenced by piston in exhaust port picture) wedged the piston, it tilted the piston. Look at the pebbling in the ring lands of the piston at the exhaust port. Looks like carbon tracking.
Sliver is nikasil when the piston leaned away from the carbon at the exhaust port, it galled the intake port and piston skirt, possibly shearing off nikasil ..........
Even if it aint nikasil,
I'd love to see that piston top with more light on it, and the ring lands exhaust port area of the piston
Carbon scraping for $1000
Is there a carbon layer in the muffler that broke off and got sucked in?
