Likewise. I had one but didn’t pay much attention to how long it lasted. Like pferd ok. Oregon seems too fine and doesn’t seem to last. I’m not sure if I’ve tried Stihl.

I think maybe this post should be in the chains section...?

As a new thread just for the Intensive Cut files, or in a general file related thread?

I think there is a thread in the ballpark of "best file" or something like that.
I'll go and take a look.

Looks like an early 61 to me.

Might have a 61 elsewhere, I’ll have to grab it to compare.

hard to say, but it could be a 162. has 162 style starter at least. and air filter looks that way too.
edit: but i thought 162s had mag fuel tanks…

Thanks, I’ll look at some more photos, see what I can work out.

61 will have a small muffler exit

Kill switch looks early like 162?

162 style tank around the filler cap, more recessed.

Cylinder numbers will tell the story I’m sure, maybe carb number.

From what I remember of the couple of 162s I've had, I couldn't tell the difference between them and the older two piece coil 61s except the 162s had magnesium tanks and closed port cylinders.

I have a white top cover you can have for shipping if you need one.

Thanks for the very generous offer, I will see if I can find a local 162 to try before taking the chance though, or more likely trying a 61 top, not fitting is also an answer I guess.

Might pull the cylinder for a look, despite the saws looks it does run.

The 162 was designed to be a professional-grade forestry saw. They were very popular here back in the day with the commercial thinning crews. Windsor even made
a custom 26" bar for them for a while for the thinners. It was a good set-up for steep ground.

Best thing is if you have a late all orange 61 it is easily converted to a 272xp for a nice power boost

Likely late 1970s - not possible to pin down exactly on those old models. You can sometime get clues by cross-referencing part numbers to model year changes or sometimes a casting date inside top or side covers.

Saw looks like it's in pretty decent shape!

Thanks I will have to look under the covers.
The pistons scored got some paint missing on the mag. It's as dull as dirt with the age of it.
