Been looking for a Husky 444 for quite a while now. Picked this up yesterday. Heated handles! Looks like it was built in 1982. Original cylinder with 2 ring piston in terrific shape. Saw is complete minus the proper nut for the top cover.

I have never seen an older husky with heated handles, they seem to be very rare. Looking at older parts fiches for older saws you can see that husky did indeed offer a G version of the oldies.. just don’t see em.
Nice find!!!

Last year I rebuilt a 435 that was DOA when given to me. I cleaned up the cylinder and installed a new piston, when I first tried to run the saw it would not rev, replaced the ignition coil and away it went. I used it a time or two then sold it to someone in need of a smaller saw.

Last week someone dropped off a very low hour 440 with exactly the same symptoms. Is this a common issue with these saws? Is there a preferred replacement coil since the OEM parts seem to be unreliable.

Thanks in advance.

Depending on the age of the saw, it may fall under a special warranty for their ignition modules. Husqvarna used to have a lifetime warranty on ignition modules to the original owner and/or original sales receipt. It was eventually reduced to a period of 7 years beyond the last production date of the model.

I actually used it at one of the better area Husky dealers on behalf of a customer a couple of years ago. A well informed dealer is a must when initiating a claim. Some may not even acknowledge the program without being nudged into making a phone call to their distributor or sales rep for clarification.

Perhaps someone more authoritative can chime in with current information about the program. Last I knew, it was still in effect.

What was difference of a 444 and a 44??

I have a 44 white top

Don't take this as the gospel, but it's correct to the best of my knowledge. The 444 had a metal fuel tank and closed port cylinder with a windowed piston. The 44 had a plastic fuel tank and an open port cylinder with a slab sided piston. And of course some cosmetic differences as well.

Talking about 394. Hm.. I have a BRAND NEW one.
It's oil pump/ clutch and clutch cover was parted out before I have it. But it's brand new and I put gas in it and runs like NEW. If someone wants air filter pics, I can manage that as well.

Thats pretty sweet, I noticed a few differences between yours and mine. You have the 2 mounting holes for the full wrap handle and no decal on the air filter cover.

Ok, so this isn’t important, but I can’t help but wonder, if people have preferences for fitting the little porous fuel breathers?

I fit the smooth side out for the large puck that is exposed to crud, hoping the smooth side will possibly reject dirt better and fit the small pill smooth side inwards to the fuel, hoping the smooth side might be less likely to draw fuel through.

Doubt it matters, just wondered if others had any opinions on fitting them.

Having been disappointed with the durability of Stihl round files for years now I yesterday started using these Husqvarna Intensive Cut round files.
So far I am very impressed with the 5.5mm 7/32" file I have been using on six 3/8" full chisel chains, Oregon and TriLink.

The Husqvarna Intensive Cut files leave a significantly sharper edge than the Stihl files do.
Also, the Intensive Cut files do not peen the cutters top chrome layer "up" like the Stihl files do.

I am curious to find out how long a single Intensive Cut file will stay sharp maintaining about a dozen loops!
For me the Stihl files would fall flat on their face within a couple filed chains, or ONE conversion from factory ground to round filed!!!
I am talking 3/8" full chisel full complement Oregon, Stihl and TriLink chains , 20"/72DL loops on average.
