Well boys, think I dun figured it out. The picture tells the story, yanked this switch out of a junked saw that only had one wire going to it, the other tab being bare. The switch grounds out to the frame when it slides in place, @Motorhead got me thinking so I checked it with an ohm meter one tab is ignition on and off, the other ground all the time for G system. So it's not like a switch like for a 372 at all, which is what I was going to use, which I think I could have grounded at one of the screws holding the coil if needed. Might as well use this old timer for now. Thanks to @exSW , @Simondo , @bigbadbob and @Motorhead for replying today. Funny though, I feel kind of stupid now, even though I just learned something. SS

The 266SE I had used the same switch. It fell apart when I tried to pull the wire off. I ended up using the new style with the ground screw.
I just had to drill a small hole for the ground screw to go in.

For me it wasn't a matter of whether or not I could make it work, it was about solving the mystery of how it was. Might sound a bit silly, but the longer that saw sat there, the more I had to know the way it was made, even if that was not the way it was to be. Glad I dug through my bone pile and looked at that other saw. Would not have guessed it to ground the way it did. Appreciate you guys coming along for the ride with me. SS

Does anybody have any input on a 272xp vs 372xp? Is one more preferred than the other or is there something I should look out for on either model. Thanks!

Hard not to like either one. That being said, I can't fall in love with the 3 series saws. It's always gonna be 272 for me. They're both excellent saws, parts are everywhere, and they'll last a lifetime if you look after them a little bit

I actually like a 266 more than either one

I really like the high top air filter on the 3 series, I've been told the 272 feels a little better handling it, what do you think?

Buy whichever one you can find for the right money. They're both good saws.
I kind of figured that there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference. Do you know if the 372 uses the plastic cage bearings?

Both stock the 372 has the performance edge, the 272 is a little bit easier to work on. Also don't leave the Jonsereds out of the mix, they have good ones too.
