Thanks. So, we are looking at the carb next I assume? I found a new OEM carb for 40 bux shipped, would I be wise to just go ahead and buy it? Not gonna pretend I'm very good with carbs!

Went ahead and ordered it, hopefully that's all she needs. Are OEM carbs usually set to the proper initial settings?

What are the differences between the 545 Mk2 and 550 Mk 2 saws.
What parts are interchangeable on these saws.

545 is a consumer model, 550 a professional model with some differences, and .4 more hp than 545 , I believe,
I understand, but what makes one a pro saw as opposed to the other. I see the 550 revs higher and takes off quicker,
is this because one has stuffers and the MT is upgraded, leaving all the other components the same, same case, same
crank, same porting, same air filter, these things I do not know but would like to.

I think the 550 has stuffers in it for higher Rpm’s

Hopefully some of the porters or engine guys will come along, just curious to see what parts are common to both or if they cheaped out in places. If I recall some of the Husky saws like the 555 had plastic parts regarding the oiler or in that area, where the 365 and 372 were the same in that department, with transfer covers and air filter differences.

It’s still a professional saw, just doesn’t wear the XP badge because it’s not the fastest on it’s chassis. 550 has crank stuffers and slightly larger transfer caps to handle more flow higher in the RPM range.
Thanks, Is the oil pump the same, and the clutch the same on both of them.

Definitely. There may be some slight differences in the ignition timing and in the carburetor, but I doubt either of those amount to much.

Thanks Kevin, I am going to give the Husky a miss, my health is not great so the slightly lighter saw with the slightly less aggressive take off is the reason for going Stihl 261 with carb, I asked locally today, waiting on answers, I must post in the appropriate section asking for euro links to buy this saw, they do not stock them in Ireland, and from past experience they are never in a hurry with a quote.
