Then you might save some buck's at HL Supply on a Meteor with the Caber rings, depending on which Husqvarna outfit you shop at prices do vary with the OEM.

Got a good dealer here. We go back a long way. When Husky dropped their prices he followed suit.

A bit about 133/234/238 vs 242/42/246
Many think they are build on the same plattform, but that is not how it is, both classes are unique.
While we can use lots of parts both ways there is a few main differences.

Crank is different, 133/234/238 crank is a tad smaller, but there is more, 133 con rod is 53,5mm long (center to center) while 242 con rod is 56,0mm long, that brings us over to c&p, you can't swap them over to the other plattform.

Crankcase difference, 133 on bottom, 242 on top, actually it's an 42 case.

A few other pictures for those who want to study the crankarea details.

Bosch coil? If so replacements are being made, I've bought some that were made in Brazil by a company called magnetron, try searching flea bay if nothing else.

I read that as OEM Husky 266 piston kits still are available - is that really the case?

That's what I'm seeing. I looked up a 1986 and it did have an updated part number though, did not check all the different years. Bit spendy.

So, is an otherwise good condition L65 worth spending $60 to get him going?[emoji848]

He ran and cut just fine before the spark took a dump.[emoji21]

It gets confusing. There's parts number changes, interchangeability with 268's,closed port, open port and so on. Thanks to Aaron I have the correct Meteor narrowed down and Ddave has it in stock. Don't feel like dealing with Husky's parts distribution.

Do you happen to have that updated part number?
seems it's 268 piston Husky offer,
# 501 65 94 03 for both A and B 266 cylinder.

Old part numbers where:
A piston # 501 65 88 02
B piston # 501 65 88 03

Those things are probleby NLA in Norway, but we still have weird things in stock here so who knows ;)

Originally the 268xp pistons were 501 65 94-02 (A) and -03 (B) - but in the last IPL (the 268 Special IPL) the -03 was listed as AB. Inbetween there also was a different number (503 44 83-71) listed as AB.

A somewhat odd thing is that the same pistons were listed for the 66 and the open port 268.

@SawTroll, Here is a link to just one of the many different online sellers of genuine Husqvarna parts. What I like about this one, they have some things in stock, if it's NLA it is listed as such, and the more odder larger parts that others say call us for price or purchase, this outfit has a price and you can order it right now. That said, here's the bad part, they are not always the most economical compared to others. I think it would be a good choice for seeing what is out there, for you. I do notice when ordering from any of these places back orders do take some time sometimes two-three weeks, no idea if a dealer can do better or not.

Be aware that at least some such sellers are listing the parts as available until they try to get it and find it NLA. They aren't really updated on what's NLA from their source. The good thing is of course that they may have stuff that is NLA from the brand in stock - but so may the brands own dealers...

Thanks for the link anyway!

I saw the parts number on partstree, but it's not always the last Husky part number, when parts become NLA in US they dont update, good example is 254 crank who is avaible in Norway with new part number.

If my memory is correct you can use closed port piston in open port cylinder, ie, 444 piston in 44 cylinder.
Wasnt there one 268 closed port version?
