When I bought this tool, it came with a couple of these CCMT inserts. I did purchase a package of the CCGT inserts, but these ones have been laying down a really nice finish, so I have been using them. Perhaps I will switch and save these inserts. You should be charging for all the machining advice

Maybe I shouldn't be giving so much advise, I just realized I do significantly less cylinder machine work for other people than I used to.

The first letter is the shape (C=diamond), second is the relief angle (C=7deg).

Now the fun begins.
The third letter is tolerance, M being generally molded, G being ground (Sharper but more fragile).

Forth is the hole type, T=countersunk.

I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I have very little machining experience, so it has been a lot of learning since I got my lathe.

It's also a good time to turn your compound and put a new chamfer at the bottom of the bore to help push the rings in during install.

I like turning a bevel on the outside as well, even though not necessary and quite possibly overkill, it makes me feel better having more available interference to the case, which is rounded in that particular area.

I do as well. That’s often the first spot to contact the case so it’s a bit on insurance to at least remake the original bevel.

For the muffler mod, I cut a 3/4” x 1” slot on the pto side and covered it with spark screen and one of @Red97 ’s large deflectors.

Port work finished up. Here is where the ports timed out after doing the machine work & porting: 100, 120-124, 80.

Re-installed the cylinder and then pulled the flywheel to remove some of the cast-in key to allow a timing advance. I ended up with about 8 degrees of timing advance. I’m sure some of you will disagree with my method for shaving down the key, but it has worked well for me.

Then I re-installed the flywheel and all the plastics, and then the muffler.

Thinking this saw might have a future in a logging/felling role, I opted to install an OEM wrap handle kit with the larger felling dogs.

I just found a new favorite way to cut those keys. A fine tooth jigsaw blade clamped in a vice grip. Works real slick.

I just bought a brand new 390xp stock off eBay from kwhite1271(member from years back). It’s Awsome and has great speed and torque. I’m going to keep it on 40 to 1 and hopefully avoid any bearing or crank issues. I do love this saw. I imagine ported she will be a monster in the forest !!
